He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 263

"Sir, do you think Mr. Yorath will actually save Quentin?"

"They're blood brothers. Of course he will," Lorenzo answered, his expression icy.

"I know that's how it should be, but I can't help being worried," Tanya murmured.

"Worried about what?"

"Nothing." Tanya handed him the tea with both hands. "Please, drink."

Lorenzo took a sip. "You don't need to worry. If he doesn't bail Quentin out by the day after tomorrow, I'll make other arrangements. I won't let him suffer in there."

Tanya nodded.

She stood behind Lorenzo, gently massaging his shoulders.

Right then, Marcella called.

Lorenzo answered, "Yes, dear?"

"What are you giving the kids tomorrow?" Marcella asked.

"Whatever you decide is fine."

"Even though we don't approve of this match in our hearts, the wedding is happening," Marcella reasoned. "As the elders, we can't be too shabby about it. People will laugh at us and think we're too cheap to buy them a marital home. I say we gift them a house."

"I'll leave it all to you," Lorenzo said, ending the call. He glanced over his shoulder. "You can leave now."

Tanya bowed her head and quietly exited the study.

Meanwhile, Marcella emerged from the family vault carrying a burled walnut casket and set it on the table.

Inside was an exquisite, matching set of jewelry.

Tanya caught a glimpse of it. "Madam, isn't this your dowry?"

This particular set of jewelry had been left to Marcella by her mother.

Her mother had come from a highly prestigious background, hailing from the powerful Harrington family.

The jewelry had once belonged to royalty before being bestowed upon her grandfather's family. Her grandmother had taken it abroad, and it was eventually passed down to her mother.

"He's not married yet, is he? We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Besides, that boy is a fool. Once word of what he's done spreads, what high-society daughter would ever agree to marry him?"

Tanya didn't dare utter another word.

Lorenzo came downstairs, having changed into fresh clothes to head out.

He walked over to Marcella and leaned down to kiss her cheek. "I have some business to attend to. Don't wait up for me tonight. Go to bed early."

Marcella reached up to straighten his lapel. "Don't drink too much, and don't be late for our son's wedding tomorrow. We can't have people thinking our family lacks manners."

She looked directly into his eyes, a soft smile on her lips. "Can you do that?"

"Of course." Lorenzo straightened up, turned, and walked out.

Marcella picked up a handkerchief and meticulously wiped the spot on her cheek where he had kissed her.

Tanya watched the exchange silently. "Madam, if you don't love Sir, why are you spending your life with him?"

Marcella didn't answer.
