He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 262

"Don't bother asking him," Lorenzo snapped. "If he refuses, the Fordham family will easily bail Quentin out ourselves."

He stood up to leave, but Marcella grabbed his arm.

"He finally came home to visit, why are you throwing such a tantrum?" she chided.

Turning back to Yorath, she softened her tone. "Yorath, talk to your father properly."

"It's not that there's no way," Yorath said evenly. "But my wedding date tomorrow is non-negotiable. Mom, Dad, you should probably start thinking about what kind of gift you're going to give your new daughter-in-law. And remember, nine o'clock sharp tomorrow. Don't be late."

Lorenzo sat back down on the sofa, his face completely closed off in stony silence.

As Yorath turned his wheelchair to leave, Marcella quickly stood up. "You just got back and you're leaving again? You refused to stay in the hospital, and now you're running all over town. If that wound tears open and gets infected, if something happens to you, what am I supposed to do?"

"Mom, I've never felt better in my life," Yorath replied. "You don't need to worry about me. Even if I died right now, I'd die happy."

From the moment Ottilie agreed to marry him, everything shifted.

He finally realized that in the three years since she had left him, he hadn't experienced a single moment of true joy.

Marcella looked at her son with deep concern. "I went to see the fortune teller. He said Ottilie is your absolute ruin. If you marry her, your life is over."

"Who's this incredible fortune teller?" Yorath quipped. "Did you ask him why he hasn't predicted his own path to wealth or when he'll marry an eighteen-year-old supermodel?"

Marcella, who had only been trying to express her maternal concern, was so aggravated by his retort that she clamped her mouth shut.

She sat back down beside Lorenzo, letting out a heavy sigh.

"You're all grown up now. I can't control you anymore. You never listen to a word I say. Fine... do whatever you want."

Her eyes reddened as she turned her head away, looking as if she were ready to disown him on the spot.

"Mom, Ottilie is wonderful," Yorath said softly. "You'll grow to like her."

He rolled his wheelchair over to her, lowering his head in a rare display of coaxing his mother.

"Once we're married, I'll work hard. We'll give you a bunch of chubby little granddaughters, and we'll bring them all back here for you to spoil."

Marcella's biggest regret in life was never having a daughter.

She had married Lorenzo and given birth to three boys in a row.

"I promise," Yorath swore. "You can spoil all my children."

Marcella laughed through her unshed tears. "If you dare trick an old woman like me, I won't recognize you as my son anymore."

"I wouldn't dare. You're my favorite mother."

Now fully pacified, Marcella beamed.

"I'm going to check the vault to see what treasures we have left to give to my new daughter-in-law tomorrow... Oh, and Lyle, the whole family is going tomorrow. Not a single person is allowed to miss it. Understood?"

Lyle stood his ground and gave a silent nod.

Yorath turned to Lorenzo. "Father, please take good care of Mother. I'll be going now."

Soren stepped inside and wheeled Yorath out.

With the main issue settled, the family dispersed.

Lorenzo returned to his study, where Tanya immediately brewed him a fresh cup of premium black tea.
