He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 268

"I think he's dead!" Ottilie screamed at the driver. "He doesn't have a heartbeat!"

Terrified, the driver slammed on the brakes, pulling the car over to the side of the road.

He scrambled out, threw open the back door, and desperately checked Yorath's pulse.

"He's still alive!" the driver shouted. "Ms. Sewell, you need to talk to him! Keep him anchored so he doesn't let go!"

The driver rushed back to the wheel, slamming the gas pedal to the floor as they raced toward the hospital in a frenzy.

Ottilie stared down at Yorath. His eyes were tightly shut, his face ashen, utterly devoid of life.

She opened her mouth, but she had absolutely no idea what to say.

Hearing nothing from the back, the driver yelled over his shoulder, "Ms. Sewell, say something! Hurry!"

"Say what?"

"Something stimulating! Anything that would shock a dying man back to life!"

Ottilie stared at Yorath's pale face. "Just die, then. If you die, I'll finally have peace."

After that, she didn't say another word.

The driver pushed the car to its absolute limits, speeding through traffic until they finally reached the emergency room.

Elian Zouch had already been alerted and was waiting at the doors. He whisked Yorath straight into the trauma bay.

Not long after, Elian emerged from surgery. "The wound tore completely open. He went into hypovolemic shock from the massive blood loss. We barely managed to save him."

Ottilie nodded numbly.

"There can't be any more of these reckless stunts," Elian warned sternly. "Until he is fully healed and discharged, I expect you to stay by his side at all times, Ms. Sewell."

Ottilie knew exactly how much these people resented her.

They blamed her for everything Yorath had been through.

And to be fair, they weren't entirely wrong.

"Got it," she replied simply.

Elian frowned, shooting her a suspicious look.

In the past, Ottilie had never listened to anyone except Yorath.

He hadn't actually expected her to agree to his demand.

He was stunned she was actually cooperating.

If they wanted to live, they had no choice but to stand with her against Yorath.

"My little superstar, please, just think of something," Kendrick pleaded. "Yorath might be out of commission right now, but the second he recovers, we're going to be the first ones on his chopping block."

"I know what I'm doing," Nyssa replied coolly. "I'll go see him in a bit and discuss terminating my contract."

Just as they were deep in strategy, there was a knock at the door.

They exchanged a look.

Kendrick opened it to find Heath Schmidt waiting in the hall.

He had come alone, sitting in his wheelchair.

"Mr. Heath, are you here for Nyssa?" Kendrick asked, giving a slight bow.

"Yes."

"May I ask what this is regarding?"

"Who the hell are you?" Heath sneered. "What gives you the right to ask?"

Heath's blatant arrogance was nothing new.
