He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 292

Ottilie stared at the tightly shut door, anxiety twisting in her chest.

But she couldn't let it show.

She took a step forward, standing beside Yvonne. "Yorath is very particular about his image. Naturally, he doesn't want people seeing him drunk. Please give me a moment to go in and speak with him before inviting everyone inside."

Officer Vance glanced at his watch.

It was a pink watch with a cartoon cat face on the dial, clearly belonging to his daughter.

Surprisingly, it didn't look out of place on him at all.

"You have two minutes."

"Thank you." Ottilie turned around, secretly letting out a sigh of relief.

She prayed Yorath would make it back in the next two minutes.

But the door was blocked—where was he supposed to come from?

She could only stall for as long as possible.

Ottilie reached for the handle, but before her fingers even brushed the wood, the door slowly slid to the right.

It opened.

Yorath stood inside, exuding his usual refined elegance, accompanied by the faint scent of alcohol.

One of his hands was wrapped in bandages, and he was wearing the exact same outfit he'd had on earlier.

With his gold-rimmed glasses, he looked as distinguished and intellectual as a college professor stepping off a podium.

"Why is it so loud out here?"

He took a long stride forward, wrapping an arm around Ottilie's slender waist, and pressed a kiss to her cheek.

Ottilie quickly gave him a brief rundown of the situation.

Yorath chuckled and patted her back reassuringly. "It's fine. I'll handle it."

He walked out, descending the steps in two easy strides, and warmly shook Officer Vance's hand.

"Officer Vance, what brings a busy man like you here? The one time I actually get drunk, I end up neglecting you."

Officer Vance replied, "I received a report and came to take a statement. Heath Schmidt was in a car crash. He officially named you as the one who tampered with his vehicle."

Yorath let out a laugh. "I was blackout drunk resting in the tea room. I don't exactly have the superpower to clone myself and pull something like that off. Besides, there's no bad blood between Heath and me. We have no overlapping interests, no inheritance rivalries. Why would I go after him?"
