He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 304

Ottilie glanced at the egg in her bowl.

The chef clearly had a bit of OCD; it was perfectly round, cooked medium-well, and looked incredibly appetizing.

Without hesitation, she finished the entire bowl of noodles.

After a busy night, Ottilie was completely exhausted.

Once she returned to the bedroom and finished washing up, she looked up to see Yorath standing right behind her.

Their eyes met in the mirror, parting just as quickly.

Before she could turn around, Yorath wrapped his arms around her.

“When I wasn't there earlier, what were you planning to do?”

“Nothing!”

She answered casually.

Yorath didn't push the issue. “Why didn't you come to me when you had a problem?”

“I figured it's better to rely on myself. I'm so tired. I haven't slept all night. Aren't you tired?”

“I am.” He scooped her up in his arms, placed her on the bed, and wrapped himself around her as they went to sleep.

Because Ottilie no longer trusted him, he found himself unable to truly rest.

After lying there for a while, he slipped quietly out of bed and left the room.

Yvonne was already waiting in the living room.

Yorath spoke sharply, “What were you doing running around waving a gun earlier? I got you a concealed carry permit to protect my wife, not to commit murder and arson.”

Yvonne stood rigidly, her head bowed.

“You told me to follow her and help her with whatever she wanted to do, no matter what it was.”

Yorath's head throbbed with anger.

No one in this house ever made things easy for him.

“Even if she wants to kill someone, you can't just do it in broad daylight! This is a society governed by laws.”

Yvonne kept her head down, refusing to argue back, obediently taking the scolding.

Seeing her like that, he couldn't even muster the energy to keep yelling.

He waved his hand. “Fine. Go get some rest.”

Yvonne nodded and left.

Yorath sat in the living room for a bit before receiving a call from his law firm. He went to Ottilie's old room, showered, got dressed, and headed out for the day.
