“Don't you have a private island abroad?” Yorath asked softly. “When the holidays come, have my mother take my older brother's two kids there for a vacation.”
They both knew stalling tactics wouldn't work forever.
But every day they could delay was a victory.
“Done.” Jevon immediately pulled out his phone to send the necessary texts.
Ottilie knew Yorath was deliberately saying this loud enough for her to hear.
She felt nothing upon hearing it.
She only felt that the grilled fish was exceptionally delicious today.
She inhaled a massive bowl of rice—a portion that would normally take her two meals to finish—in one sitting.
She even drank a whole can of soda.
“Since ma'am can eat like this, it proves she's recovering,” Yvonne commented. “She'll likely be discharged in less than two days.”
Hearing this, the corners of Yorath's lips curled up.
“Go call the chef from the house. Have him come to the hospital. Whatever my wife wants to eat, he can make it in the hospital kitchen.”
Yvonne cleared away the dishes and left to arrange it.
After eating, Ottilie felt sleepy again.
She brushed her teeth, rinsed her mouth, lay down, and was asleep the moment she closed her eyes.
Night fell.
Elian came by after his shift for rounds.
Ottilie woke up and let them run their various checks on her.
“Her condition has improved. The fever hasn't returned,” Elian noted. “Are you experiencing discomfort anywhere else?”
“My throat doesn't hurt as much anymore,” Ottilie said, “but my head feels really heavy. Like it's sloshing with water. And my ears feel plugged.”
“Your body is still fighting off the inflammation. A couple more days of treatment and you'll be fully recovered,” Elian reassured her.
Ottilie nodded.
Seeing that she was getting better, Yorath let Elian clock out and go home.
Sitting in the desk chair, Jevon stared at Ottilie for a few seconds before saying, “Elian stayed here to watch over you last night. Tonight, it's my turn. If you need anything fetched, I'm your guy.”
Elian nodded and left. However, shortly after leaving work, he returned with a massive haul of fruit.
