Nyssa shrugged. "Who can really say what the future holds?"
Yvonne couldn't even be bothered to look at her. She gestured toward the door. "Unauthorized personnel, please leave."
Nyssa smirked and turned on her heel.
Once inside her car, she pulled out a cigarette and lit it.
Glancing at Kendrick Walden, she said, "When you got kidnapped before, you suspected it was my doing. You thought I was going to burn my bridges and get rid of you once my goal was reached. Now you see the truth. I have absolutely no intention of siding with Yorath Fordham. He and I are mortal enemies. I would never hurt you. Whoever abducted you was just trying to drive a wedge between us, hoping our internal paranoia would make one of us cave. If either of us had broken under the pressure and shown our cards, he would have dug up everything about what happened back then. Neither of us would have escaped."
Kendrick hadn't expected Nyssa to find such an incredibly powerful backer.
He had only found out yesterday, and his jaw was still on the floor.
Sure, the guy was a bit older, but he had immense power and ruthless methods.
That was more than enough.
Nyssa sighed. "It's a pity, really. I originally wanted to marry Yorath. He's young, gorgeous, has incredible stamina, endless money, and a flawless family background. I could have used him as a stepping stone to the top. Unfortunately, he's a hopeless romantic. I had no choice but to find a replacement."
So what if the new guy was older? For the sake of her future and career, she could grit her teeth and bear it.
Kendrick warned, "You really shouldn't bring up Yorath anymore. Your new backer is extremely possessive."
Nyssa scoffed. "What good is being possessive? He lasts barely a few seconds in bed."
Kendrick wisely clamped his mouth shut.
The second Nyssa left, Yorath issued a command to Yvonne.
"Have someone tail Nyssa Tarrant. Every single person she meets, note them down and investigate them one by one. If any of them are doctors, report back to me immediately."
Meanwhile, at the hospital.
Ottilie woke up in a haze. Before she even opened her eyes, she was assaulted by the relentless, piercing beeps of the ICU monitors.
The sound was deafening, her head pounding in rhythm with it.
She forced her eyes open and saw Yorath sitting by the edge of her bed, watching her intently.
Ottilie tried to move, only to find her wrists and ankles restrained. "Why am I tied up?"
She frowned deeply, absolutely loathing the sensation.
