Heath hung up. Ottilie felt a rush of deep satisfaction.
She took another sip of coffee when a heavy, piercing gaze landed on her. She turned to see Yorath, fresh from his overnight stay at The Empyrean. He wore a crisp, formal three-piece suit, his jacket draped over his arm. He looked like he'd just stepped out of a courtroom.
They locked eyes for a second before Ottilie casually turned back to her coffee.
Yorath set his jacket aside and joined her on the balcony. "You saw Heath?"
"Yeah."
"Had lunch with him?"
"Yeah."
She knew Yorath kept tabs on her; there was no point lying.
"You're my wife. You go out for private lunches with other men. What exactly is your game, Ottilie?" His voice was low, but the fury in it was palpable.
She straightened up, matching his tone. "I'm your wife, but I'm also a human being with basic rights. Am I not allowed to see people?"
Both spoke calmly, yet the air was thick with tension.
Yorath stood up and stepped into her personal space, looking down at her. His tall frame cast a dark shadow over her, blocking the light. The sheer intensity of his presence made her heart race.
"Are you going to hit me?" she challenged.
A vein throbbed at his temple. His entire body went rigid, his breathing heavy. For a few agonizing seconds, he said nothing. Then he spun around and stormed off.
