"I remember we gave everyone a cool million in hush money back then, plus covered all medical expenses. Especially Fabian—his burns were so severe we gave him a two-million lump-sum payout."

Kendrick leaned in. "Exactly. Between the hush money, the medical bills, and the monthly stipend we've been throwing his way for years, it's easily been millions. And yet, he's still greedy enough to try and extort us. We might as well nip this in the bud and send him straight to hell, before he bites back and drags us down."

Hearing that, Nyssa instantly lost her appetite.

She stood up, pondering for a moment before saying, "Handle it. But don't mess this up. If this blows back on us, we're all finished."

"Consider it done." Kendrick gave a slight nod and backed away.

To ensure their silence, Nyssa had forced all those involved into the same sinking ship.

They had all conspired to frame Ottilie. As long as none of them wanted to end up in prison or face Yorath's wrath, their lips would remain sealed.

Besides, Nyssa had made sure they were well compensated afterward.

With enough money to last an ordinary person a lifetime, most had naturally stayed quiet.

As the call connected, Kendrick actually sounded pleasant. "Family issues sorted out? The cash from that watch should keep you afloat for a while, right?"

But he kept his tone perfectly even. "Yeah, it'll hold me over for a long time. I actually wanted to thank you. Let me treat you to a meal. What do you say?"

"A meal?" Kendrick had also been looking for a chance to meet up with Fabian.

But he couldn't act too eager, lest he raise suspicions.

"With a face like mine, eating out would just ruin everyone's appetite," Fabian said. "But the autumn weather is beautiful, and I love hiking. If you're up for it, I can take you up the trails. We'll head out in the morning, come back in the evening, and I'll cook for you up there."
