He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 96

1:30 AM.

Yorath stepped out of the hospital and got into his car.

Soren handed him a phone. "It's Yvonne."

Yorath pressed it to his ear and heard Yvonne's crisp voice. "Ms. Sewell got into someone else's car outside the wrap party. We're running the license plate now. We'll have results in minutes."

Yorath ended the call, sitting in the back seat with a face as cold as frost.

A few minutes later, Yvonne called back. "We have a match. The car belongs to Lachlan Schmidt."

Jevon and Elian, having just climbed into the vehicle behind him, heard the update clearly.

"She ran off with another man! Son of a bitch, she dares cheat on Yorath? Soren, step on it, we're going straight to Lachlan's place. I swear, if I don't break his damn legs tonight, I'll never get over this!"

Yorath shot Jevon a warning look. "Watch your mouth."

Jevon coughed awkwardly and smacked the leather seat hard. "Soren, hurry up! Let's go catch them."

The late-night streets were a blur of colorful neon lights.

After driving Ottilie aimlessly around the city for over two hours, Lachlan suddenly floored the accelerator.

"What's wrong?" Ottilie sensed the sudden shift.

"We're being tailed," Lachlan replied.

Ottilie glanced over her shoulder and instantly recognized the license plate.

"That's Yorath's car."

Instead of pulling over, Lachlan pressed harder on the gas.

"Yorath is bringing a crew to catch us in the act. If he traps me as the 'other man,' I'll lose half my life even if I survive. We need to run."

"What are you so afraid of? Mr. Fordham respects the law."

Lachlan replied, "The truth is, you're just using me to completely infuriate him. Before you put all your cards on the table, you definitely don't want his enemy eliminated this easily."

"The enemy of my enemy is a friend. Consider us temporary allies."

Ottilie added, "Whatever you say to them, I'll play along."

Only then did Lachlan roll down the window, snapping at Yvonne, "You maliciously stalked and rear-ended my vehicle. I'm calling the police."

Yvonne replied evenly, entirely unfazed, "We received intelligence that Ms. Sewell was abducted in your vehicle. We executed a necessary self-defense maneuver to ensure her safety. Mr. Fordham will be here any second. I suggest you prepare an explanation for him."

Lachlan scoffed. "It's a complete misunderstanding. I was just passing by and saw her standing miserably on the street alone in a gown and heels. I simply offered her a ride home."

"Then why have you been driving aimlessly around the city for hours without actually taking her home?"

Lachlan shrugged. "I got lost."

For a fraction of a second, Yvonne's notoriously unbreakable stoic expression faltered.
