Chapter 82

I can’t keep fighting. Lyra thought.

She took a half-step back with all four paws.

Silver Whisper’s meow drifted down from the second floor, laced with curiosity and confusion.

Every time those four guys managed to get back on their feet, their emotions spilled out even more-like fireworks going off inside Silver Whisper’s sensing range.

Alex saw the cat back off and stepped forward. “It’s running! Quick-

“Meow!” Silver Whisper yowled.

“Ah!” Alex yelped.

Silver Whisper leaped down from the second floor, delivered a sharp kick to Alex’s head, and used the momentum to land lightly on the floor.

Silver Whisper tilted its head, looking at Lyra. “Meow?” “What’s going on?”

Lyra flicked her tail. “Meow meow meow!” ‘I was trying to catch them, but they’re way too fast. I’ve been chasing them forever.

Silver Whisper glanced at the four guys sprawled on the floor. Alex was clutching his head as he got up, Tanaka was covering the claw marks on his face, Park Jung-hoon was still rubbing his calf, and the Marsupian guy was on all fours, panting like an

Silver Whisper let out a long, drawn-out meow. Their emotions are so intense-I could feel it from upstairs. They’re scared, anxious, and totally pissed off.”

Lyra pretended not to care, licking her front paws twice. “Meow! Meow meow, meow.” “Well, obviously. After getting slapped around by me so many times, how could they not be mad?”

Alex had just managed to steady himself when he looked up and saw another cat. His face went green.

Tanaka lowered his hand from his face, staring at Silver Whisper, his voice trembling. “Boss, there’s another one.”

Park Jung-hoon had already gotten to his feet and took two steps back.

The Marsupian guy glanced at Maine Titan, then at Silver Whisper. The six-foot-three man gritted his teeth, his fists clenching and unclenching.

Even with just one cat, the four of them couldn’t get past it.

Two cats now?’ he thought, a chill running down his spine.

“Retreat, Alex growled through clenched teeth.

Tanaka panicked. “But the basement-”

“Retreat!” Alex had already turned around. He wasn’t stupid. One Maine Titan had already beaten the four of them into the ground, and now with another cat in the mix, nobody’s getting near that fire escape today.

Park Jung-hoon didn’t waste a second. He turned and bolted. He never wanted to be here in the first place, so just making it out alive was a win.

Tanaka stumbled, shot a quick look at the fire escape, grumbled something in Niphonian nobody could understand then spun around and took off.

The Marsupian guy was the last to leave, but he was the fastest. With those long legs, he overtook the other three in just three strides.

Watching the four of them run, Silver Whisper got excited. “Meow!” ‘He’s the most freaked out-I’m going after him!

With a flick of its tail, Silver Whisper pushed off with its hind legs and launched itself after him.

Lyra crouched at the entrance, quietly seeing the four guys and Silver Whisper off as they vanished down the hallway.

The Britannia player waited another thirty seconds inside the store, then peeked out and stole a look at the cat sitting gard by the fire escape entrance.

The cat’s eyes swung over and met his, locking right onto him.

He ducked back inside.

‘Forget it, I’m not stepping out,’ he thought.

Lyra never wandered more than sixteen feet from the entrance. After that, a few more players tried their luck. Some saw the cat and ran off without a second thought. The reckless ones only gave up after Lyra smacked them around.

As time ticked by, the mall echoed with the occasional scream and the sound of cats meowing. The glowing treasure chests were scattered all over, but there were way fewer than before.

Lyra looked around. She could only spot six glowing treasure chests left. Time’s almost up,’ she thought. ‘Once these are gone or stop glowing, the Treasure Chest Rain will be over for good.’

Lyra stood up at the entrance, stretched out her four paws, and slipped along the wall into the fire escape.

She reached the first basement floor.

Inside the supermarket, the four of them were heading back, each loaded down with food-some in their arms, some in their hands, some slung over their shoulders.

Lyra trotted up to them. “Meow!”

Lily looked down and saw Maine Titan, nearly dropping the salt in her hand. “Goddess Lyra?”

Lyra meowed twice, flicking her tail toward the storage room, then toward the stairs.

“So we just throw what we’ve got in there and bail?” Lily was the quickest to catch on.

Lyra nodded her cat head.

The four of them picked up the pace, each tossing their final batch of supplies into their own nation’s container. Lydia was the fastest-she even dashed back and stuffed a bag of flour into Draconia’s container.

Lyra crouched by the door, still in her cat form, waiting for them. When the four of them came back with their backpacks on, she stood up, took a few steps toward the stairs in her feline way, then glanced back at them.

“Goddess Lyra wants us to follow her,” Lily whispered.

Lydia nodded, signaling for Lina and Sergei to follow.

The five of them headed up the stairs, with Lyra leading the way. She kept stopping and starting, checking where the other cats were outside. When they reached the fire escape exit on the first floor, she poked her head out and glanced left and
