Chapter 86

[Game is about to be terminated.]
[Countdown: 10 seconds. All players will be forcibly teleported out of the mission. Please prepare yourselves.
[10…]
Lyra was crouched among the ten cats, her hand still resting on the Tricolor Mimic’s head. She glanced up at the ceiling
“What?”
The Tricolor Mimic had just started to say “no,” the Ambercat’s eyes were still wet, and the Maine Titan’s pupils had just focused-and now the game just pulls the plug?
“Can’t handle it, huh?”
Lyra’s lips twitched.
‘Are you kidding me? Right when the cats are about to wake up, you start the countdown?’ Lyra thought.
Draconia Strategic Command.
At Draconia Strategic Command, Lana slammed her fist on the table. The teacup rattled, and water splashed out.
Garrett looked up at her.
Lana ignored him, her gaze locked on the screen, where ten cats were sprawled at Lyra’s feet, not moving an inch.
“The game’s been terminated,” Lana said.
Garrett’s pen stopped mid-air. “Commander, this is the first time the game’s ever been terminated.”
“Yeah, the first time,” Lana said, standing up and leaning on the table. “No matter how many people died, no matter how crazy the mission got, the game never stopped halfway through. Not even when we were hauling supplies earlier.”
Garrett followed her gaze to the screen. “Is it because of the Dream Butterfly?”
“The timing’s just too perfect,” Lana said, her nails digging into the table. “Lyra used Dream Butterfly, the cats started showing signs of waking up, and the game immediately stopped. Last round, the ice tree only responded in the last few seconds, so we didn’t really catch it. But this time…”
She let go and stepped back. “At least it shows one thing.”
“The cats’ minds really can be awakened,” Lana said, her voice low.
Draconia Live Channel.
At the Draconia Live Channel, the chat froze for three seconds, then blew up.
momo: [I was holding my breath for two whole minutes, my hands are still shaking, and now the game just suddenly ends?!]

BornToCuss: [This game is such a little piece of crap! Just when Goddess Lyra was about to wake up the cats, it’s totally’ cheating! Its damn devs have no shame!]
LyraSuperfan. [Guys, seriously, remember the ice tree last round? After Dream Butterfly, it fought back! Same thing happened with the cats! Goddess Lyra actually woke them up!]
NeverAteVeggies: [So the game got scared? It just rage quit and threw the table over?]
AnotherDayAlive: [I swear, this game is even more petty than my boss. If it can’t win, it just rage quits and flips the board.
LuckyKoi: [Fingers crossed, hope everything goes well! Lily Cub, why are you just standing there? Hurry up and grab the loot!]
Beauty store.
At the beauty store, Lina nearly dropped the perfume bottle in her hand the moment she heard the announcement.
“What? The game’s been terminated?” Lina asked.
Lydia popped up from behind the shelf. “Does that mean we won?”
Sergei glanced up at the ceiling. “What’s going on?”
Lily cupped her face in her hands, her mouth hanging open. “What did Goddess Lyra do? She actually crashed the game!”
Lina froze for a second, then it hit her.
“Grab the loot!” Lina shouted.
She crouched down and started grabbing her backpack, talking a mile a minute. “Hurry up and grab all the loot! Everything you get in the game can be brought back to the real world! You can use it again next round!”
With that, she swung her backpack to the front, unzipped it, and started shoving stuff in like crazy.
Perfume, citrus spray, sample packs-she snatched up everything within reach on the shelves and stuffed it all into her bag.
Lydia was fast too. She rushed over in three quick steps and scooped up every last citrus-scented perfume into her bag.
Sergei took off his jacket, spread it on the floor, and started tossing bottles and cans onto it.
Lily checked her pockets-cat food cans, orange peels, cat toys…
Alright, she’s got the essentials, but that’s not enough for her. She dove right in to loot with the others. ‘Doesn’t matter if it’s useful or not-just grab everything first!”
First-floor south side, safehouse.
At the Ground Floor South Safehouse, Alex leaned against the wall, listening to the countdown over the broadcast, his brow furrowed.
Tanaka rubbed the claw marks on his face. “Boss, the game’s been terminated? What’s going on?”
Park Jung-hoon got up from the floor. “Did the Draconian players clear out the basement, and the game caught them?”
“No idea,” Alex said, shaking his head. “Maybe. We’ll find out when we get out.”

Tanaka thought for a moment. “It’s gotta be the Draconian players who did something!”
Alex thought back to that Maine Titan from earlier.
Something was seriously off about that cat-it was way too smart, like it had its own agenda. It didn’t feel like an NPC at all. More like a real player.
“Whatever,” he said, standing up and brushing the dust off his pants. “As long as we get out alive, that’s all that matters.
Other players scattered throughout the mall also breathed a sigh of relief.
The Britannia players stumbled out from behind the shoe store, their legs still wobbly.
The Gallia players, hiding in a corner on the second floor, let out a long sigh of relief when they heard the broadcast.
No matter what, they had survived.
Ground Floor Atrium.
[9, 8…]
Lyra crouched among the ten cats, her mind racing. The cats were starting to respond, but they weren’t fully awake yet, and the game was about to kick everyone out.
She had no idea when she’d see these cats again, or if the game would wipe their memories.
She needed to figure something out. Suddenly, she remembered how Lina kept pulling out all sorts of items last round.
“What about the cats?’ Lyra wondered.
‘Are the cats loot?’ Lyra thought.
She wasn’t sure.
But hey, only one way to find out.
[5…]
Lyra didn’t hesitate-she dove forward.
She flung her arms wide, grabbing as many cats as she could and pulling them into her arms.
The Maine Titan was pressed halfway under her chest, the Ambercat wedged tight beneath her left arm, Silver Whisper swept in by her right, and the Tricolor Mimic squished right under her chin.
But that still wasn’t enough-there were six more cats she hadn’t grabbed yet.
Lyra brought her legs into play, clamping them together to hook in the Shadowcat and Golden Veil.
Her elbow bumped the Ragdoll Healer, sending it tumbling straight into the growing pile of cats.
“Come on! All of you, get over here!” Lyra called out.
