Chapter 99
in the hallway, Lily looked utterly defeated. “Garrett, I’m already a major. Do I really have to go to school?”
“You’re only in fourth grade. You haven’t even finished grade school. What else are you supposed to do?” Garrett replied.
“Protect the country!” Lily shot back.
Lyra smacked her on the back of the head. “Even heroes need to know how to write. If you hand in a battle report full of typos, wouldn’t that be embarrassing?”
Lily opened her mouth, but couldn’t come up with a comeback.
Garrett led Lily away. Before leaving, Lily shot Lyra a desperate look that said, ‘Help me!’
Lyra just waved her off. Lily’s shoulders slumped as she followed Garrett into the elevator.
“Your school records have been transferred to Capital Elementary. Your parents will go with you to register today,” Garrett called out as the elevator doors closed.
Lyra lingered in the hallway, not following them. She turned back to her room, left the door open, and sat on the edge of her bed, keeping her eyes glued to the door across the hall. Lana and Jane were inside.
After a brief pause, she pulled out her phone, found Zoe in her contacts, and fired off a message.
[Zoe, hurry to my room. Something huge just happened!]
Once she sent it, she dropped her phone on the bed and stared at the ceiling.
Zoe had told her that Jane was her captain.
Lyra remembered, back then, trying to cheer Zoe up, saying maybe Jane’s soul might still be out there somewhere, not just gone forever.
Back then, she wasn’t even sure herself, but now, she really did bump into Jane,
Lyra tilted her head, musing to herself, ‘Man, what are the odds? Seriously, what are the odds?’
She’d just told Lana she wanted to make sure everyone got fed, and then, bam, she found a supermarket warehouse in the mission.
She’d just tried to cheer Zoe up by saying Jane’s soul might still be out there, and then, boom, she found Jane’s soul inside the Tricolor Mimic.
Lyra thought, ‘Seriously, what are the odds? My luck is off the charts.
Lyra pulled out her Soul Deck and flipped through the cards. There were fifty-four in total; ten had been used, leaving forty- four.
She could still bring them into the next round, but she wasn’t sure if she could actually seal any entities right there in the
game.
She tucked the cards away, her mind drifting off.
Lyra wondered, ‘If I can seal Wraiths in the game, then what about the Wraith-occupied zones in Draconia? Can I seal the ones there too?’
Thinking about it, Lyra felt like her Soul Deck just didn’t have enough cards.

Chapter 99
She wasn’t sure what the Wraith zones were like these days. After she finished questioning all ten souls, she planned to check them out herself.
Not just a quick glance from a distance. She wanted to go in, deep into the heart of it.
With her Decoy Doll still holding nine lives and Wraithslayer in hand, Lyra figured she could walk around inside without worrying about dying. Maybe she’d finally find something truly useful in there.
Every round of the game set up traps in the missions, but the Wraith zones in the real world were just left there, ignored. That just didn’t make sense.
Lyra wondered, ‘Are they really just ignoring them?’
Lyra thought, ‘Or is the Wraith zone itself one huge trap?’
Just as Lyra was lost in thought, she heard footsteps in the hallway, quick and steady.
Zoe showed up at the doorway, her military boots thudding against the threshold as she paused and gave Lyra a quick once-
over.
“Lyra, what’s up? What’s the big deal?” Zoe asked.
Lyra got up from the bed, grabbed Zoe by the arm, and led her into the room, gently pushing her down into a chair.
Zoe looked puzzled. “What’s going on?”
Lyra pointed at the room across the hall. “Zoe, over there.”
She leaned in and whispered quietly, “I brought back the Tricolor Mimic, and the soul inside it is Jane.”
Zoe froze.
One second.
Two seconds.
The chair legs scraped against the floor as Zoe shot to her feet. “What?”
“Jane, your captain,” Lyra said, reaching out to stop her. “Lana’s talking to her right now, in the room across the hall.”
Zoe pulled back her step, but her whole body was still leaning forward, as if she was about to bolt across the hall any second.
Lyra put a hand on her shoulder and gently pushed her down. “Sit down, sit down.”
Zoe sat back down, her hands resting on her knees. “Is it really Jane?”
“My captain?” Zoe asked, her voice trembling.
“For real,” Lyra said.
“She’s a C Tier soul, the strongest out of all ten cats,” Lyra added.
Zoe swallowed hard. She stood up, sat back down, then stood up again, pacing a couple of steps in Lyra’s room before turning and coming back.
“How is she?” Zoe stopped by the window, her back to Lyra, her voice trembling. “Is she okay?”
“Her soul is stable, C. Tier, stronger than the other nine,” Lyra replied.
Chapter 99
“She just doesn’t have a body anymore. She’s just floating around, Lyra added.
Zoe turned around, her eyes a little red, her lips pressed into a thin line. “Can I go see her?”
“Let’s wait for Lana to come out,” Lyra said, gesturing at the room across the hall. “No rush, really. She’s here now, so we’ve got all the time in the world.”
Zoe nodded, walked to the door, then doubled back and sat down in the chair, her hands crossed on her knees, her fingers tangled together, fidgeting restlessly.
Lyra watched Zoe, noticing just how jittery she was.
Zoe was always the calm and sharp type, sometimes even a bit playful, but she never lost her cool. Now, she was like a whole different person, totally on edge and a nervous wreck.
