Chapter 107 Go to the Courthouse

Evan promptly lowered his gaze, focusing intently on the floor.

Elian picked up his own phone and dialed Linda.

At that very moment, Liana was sitting with Linda in the living room of the Locke Manor, the marriage certificate now in her possession.

Linda had been attempting to dissuade her from the divorce. Seeing Elian’s call, she answered. “Oh, she’s here. Hold on.”

Elian waited patiently until he heard Liana’s soft, “Hello?”

“You have the certificate?”

“Yes.”

In front of his mother, Liana kept her replies brief.

“Come to the hospital. Pick me up. We’ll go to the courthouse together.”

He hung up without waiting for a reply.

Surprised by his immediate agreement, Liana handed the phone back to Linda. “I should go.”

“Wait, Liana. Don’t forget your promise. Once the divorce is finalized, you must become my goddaughter,” Linda said, her affection for Liana evident.

“I won’t forget.”

Liana truly craved the presence of a maternal figure.

After Liana left, Linda’s worry returned, only to be interrupted by another call from Elian.

Soon, Liana parked her car in the hospital lot and made her way upstairs to the private ward.

As she approached, she heard Anya’s voice from inside. It sounded pitiful and innocent.

“It was only after you left last night that the housekeeper told me the truth. Elian, I’m so sorry. I apologize on their behalf,” Anya was saying, seated by the bedside.

If it weren’t for needing to take him to the courthouse, Liana would have turned around. She gave a light knock on the open door.

Anya, wiping tears, turned and quickly stood up. “Liana.”

Liana stared at her red, hurt eyes. She had to admit the act was good.

Such a fragile beauty.

No wonder Elian knew Theo wasn’t his son yet still helped raise him.

“I’m here to take Mr. Locke to the courthouse.”

Liana remained in the doorway, not intending to step further inside.

“Can I come? I’d like to look after Elian,” Anya asked Liana before casting a concerned glance at the bandage on Elian’s head.

“I don’t mind.”

Liana’s tone was indifferent.

Once divorced, who he spent time with was none of her concern.

Elian, however, was staring coldly at her, silently cursing her detachment.

Anya, thrilled by Liana’s apparent indifference, couldn’t resist leaning in closer to Elian, her hand reaching out tenderly toward the bandage. “Elian, let me see? How did you get hurt?”

Her fingers barely brushed his hairline before he swiftly pulled away.

Her hand hovered awkwardly in the air. “Elian…”

“Let’s go.”

Elian got out of bed from the opposite side, his tall frame immediately moving toward Liana.

She noticed he was holding the purse she had used last night.

It was a gift from Linda. Him holding it was fine, but her phone was inside. So she stayed at the door and lowered her voice when he came near. “My phone’s in that bag.”

“Is it? Didn’t see it.”

Liana looked up at him.

Yeah, I’m not buying that.

The expression on his face made his words even less believable.

He looked down at her with an air of arrogant possession, the bag gripped tightly in his hand.

“Well? Are we going or not?”

Liana stepped aside.

Elian strode past her without hesitation.

Liana turned to follow. Anya quickly shouldered her own bag and caught up, walking beside Liana.

“Liana, I never thought you’d really go through with divorcing Elian,” Anya murmured, her tone laced with innocent-sounding curiosity.

“Don’t act so intimate. My mother didn’t give me a sister,” Liana replied coolly.

“But you-”

“This isn’t some archaic era where Elian can have a wife and a concubine,” Liana cut her off.

Anya stared at her, shocked.

Liana paused only for a moment to deliver the remark before continuing down the corridor.

Elian walked ahead, but he heard every word.
