Chapter 109 Grandma Fainted
His voice was low, each word deliberate.
Liana heard him, and her tears spilled all at once. But she refused to speak.
Elian understood her resolve was absolute. He said nothing more.
So divorce it is?
He slowly disentangled himself from her, the tight grip on her hand finally loosening.

Anya, watching from the corner of her eye, breathed a silent sigh of relief when they separated.
Lucas, however, still didn’t dare to breathe too loudly.
Last night, his boss hadn’t looked this miserable and humble-his boss had been wild.
And in Lucas’ opinion, a little madness was healthy in a marriage. Too much.calm often spelled disaster.
The courthouse came into view. Lucas parked the car and kept his hands on the wheel, staying silent.
Anya was the first to move, pushing open the passenger door with a sense of urgency.
She stepped out, inhaling the fresh air as if released from a pressure chamber.
Then she immediately walked around to the rear and opened Elian’s door herself.
“Elian, we’re here,” she said softly.
Lucas was mildly annoyed that his duty was usurped but said nothing.
Elian didn’t look at Liana again.
His expression had turned distant in an instant.
He had tried during the drive.
But she ignored him.
For a woman who no longer loved him, he wouldn’t force it.

Liana’s phone rang again. He hadn’t taken her bag when he got out. She reached for it, retrieved only her phone, and saw Linda’s name on the screen. A frown creased her brow.

Having lost a daughter, Linda had embraced Liana as her own from the moment she entered the Locke family. But that bond wasn’t enough to make Liana stay in a broken marriage.
She didn’t answer.
She even switched the phone to silent.
Anya and Elian stood by the car, watching as Liana finally emerged.
“Let’s hurry inside,” Anya urged, unable to hide her eagerness.
Our divorce seems to matter a lot to you. Liana observed Anya’s impatience.
But if Anya’s presence sped things up, so be it. Liana kept her head down and walked ahead.
“Don’t follow,” Elian commanded Anya before he moved toward the building.
Anya looked puzzled but quickly nodded. “Okay.”
She stood obediently by the car, watching them enter the courthouse. She thought about getting back into the car to make a call, but Lucas cautiously reminded her, “Miss Forrest, I need to move the car to the parking lot.”
Yep, he didn’t let her back in.
Annoyed, Anya stayed put and dialed a number on her phone. “Elian and Liana are here to finalize their divorce. Please speed things up.”
Inside, at the family law division, Liana and Elian stood behind another couple, waiting for their turn.
Elian spoke first.
“After the divorce, let’s just go our separate ways. Clean break.”
“Okay.”
Liana kept her eyes downcast, agreeing.
品
They were no different from the pair in front of them-low energy, defeated.
Elian’s phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen, hesitated for a few seconds, then answered. “What? I see. We’re on our way.”

Liana sensed the “we” included her and instinctively looked up at him.
“Did my mom call you just now?” Elian demanded.
“Yes.”

“Why didn’t you answer? Grandma fainted when she heard we were getting a divorce. She’s in the ER now!”
After his angry outburst, he turned and strode away without waiting for her response.
Liana’s mind buzzed. How was I supposed to know?
But the word “ER” overrode everything else. She turned and hurried after him. “What else did she say?”
“Do you even care? Since we’re going to be strangers, you might as well cut ties with the entire Locke family. Forget about Grandma’s condition,” he shot back, his long strides creating a vast, deliberate distance between them.
His words sent a tremor through her. Her vision blurred completely with tears, and for a moment, her feet felt rooted to the spot.
Elian reached the entrance and turned back. Seeing she hadn’t followed, he snapped, “What are you waiting for? Do you want my grandma to die with regrets?”
That snapped her into motion. She rushed forward, wiping her tears roughly as she half-jogged to keep up with him.
