His breath hitched with a suppressed rage he quickly reined in, pulling her tightly against him, his arms locking around her.

“Are you going to give his job back?” Liana asked, letting him hold her, her head bowed.

“How could I dare disobey my wife’s orders?” he replied. Then, he turned her around, pressing her against the back of the door.

He cupped her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze. “Theo isn’t my son. Tomorrow night, I’ll tell you everything I’ve kept from you.”

Liana was merely putting on a brave face.

She could see he wanted to salvage their marriage, but some bridges, once burned, couldn’t be crossed.

Soon after, Elian made a call to have Theo sent upstairs. FS staffer’s job was secured, and he headed back to Coalton.

Linda tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. Finally, she nudged her husband. “David, are you asleep?”

“Hmm?” David instinctively reached for her, half-asleep.

“Is that boy out of his mind? He actually let Theo sleep with Liana.”

Linda was practically pulling her hair out at the thought.

“Theo’s a sweet kid. It’s fine. Go to sleep,” David mumbled, patting her back and drifting off again.

But sleep eluded Linda. She flipped the pillow over, her mind racing.

Meanwhile, in Elian’s suite, Theo and Liana shared the bed. Elian was on the couch.

Yeah, his wife said the bed was too small for three.

Hmph.

The next morning dawned bright and clear.

When Liana opened her eyes, a bouquet of white roses lay on the pillow beside her, impossibly

For a moment, she thought she was dreaming. She reached out, her fingers brushing the velvety petals.

They were real.

She remembered the past two years. Elian had always sent her flowers on her birthday. She hadn’t expected it this year.

A pang

It’s

of sadness shot through her, but she pushed it down.

my birthday. I should be happy.

She leaned in, inhaling the delicate fragrance. She loved fresh flowers.

Elian watched from the doorway, a faint, satisfied smile touching the corners of his eyes. He didn’t enter to claim credit.

He’d already left for the Locke Group by the time she came down for breakfast. On the drive, he made a call. “Have another thousand roses prepared.”

The kitchen had made her a special birthday spaghetti. She ate it before being driven to Summit High.

Her colleagues had prepared a surprise. The moment she stepped into the teachers’ office, party poppers exploded.

Chloe led the way with a cake, everyone singing “Happy Birthday.”

It wasn’t special treatment-the staff celebrated every teacher’s birthday.

Quentin had a gift ready. After others offered simple presents, he stepped forward. “Happy Birthday, Liana.”

“Thank you.”

She accepted the small box, relieved to find a tasteful pen inside, not something extravagant.

Seeing her expression, Quentin chuckled softly.

Liana smiled back. Once boundaries were clearly drawn, everything became easier.

“Just think, we’re having dinner at the Locke Manor tonight! Liana, we owe this all to you!” Chloe gushed excitedly before her first class.

Liana was stunned.

Lily approached her. “Let’s go pick out a proper outfit at lunch. Can’t have you looking underdressed.”

“Hold on. Are you all… coming to my birthday dinner?” Liana finally blurted out.

“Of course! That day, your husband was waiting for you to finish class when he came across us

the day he told us he was ‘out of town for work’-he invited us all,” Lily explained.

Liana was speechless.

A slow, creeping anxiety began to coil in her stomach.

He said he’d tell me everything tonight. What has he planned?

She

got her evening class covered and was picked up early and driven to the Locke Manor.

A stylist was already waiting.

“It’s your birthday. No more black today.”

It was a pale blue, silk wrap dress, beautiful and felt luxurious against the skin, but…

“Linda, I thought it was just a simple family dinner? Grandma said we’d be making apple pie together later.”

In their family, apple pie was the celebratory food for every occasion, birthdays included.

She’d

grown up with the tradition and saw nothing unusual about it.

“Silly girl, you won’t be lifting a finger tonight. Your husband has everything arranged. You just be the birthday girl,” Linda said, just as an assistant brought in a case of matching jewelry.

This time, it was diamonds.

Dazzling, brilliant diamonds.

Their previous celebrations had been quiet, private affairs. He’d given her fine jewelry, but nothing with this sheer, undeniable weight.

Now, as they stood on the brink of divorce, it felt like… a declaration. Like he wanted the whole world to know.

The thought made Liana’s heart pound erratically in her chest.

Outside, the garden was being transformed with elegant decorations.

Across the yard, Xander and Nathan were chatting with friends. Xander’s brow furrowed as he watched Lily walk toward Liam.

Lily was his blind date. They’d exchanged WhatsApp, but she never initiated contact. Not once.
