She had learned of Elian’s plan to propose to Liana tonight only after arriving. Luckily, she was prepared.

“No need.”

Elian forcibly pushed her hand down, loosened the tie from around his neck, and yanked it off. He held it for a second before tossing it aside.

No one moved to pick it up, though Anya couldn’t help but glance at it.

She had chosen it specially for him tonight. And he had thrown it on the ground.

Elian took long, deliberate strides, closing the distance toward Liana.

Lawrence guided Liana forward, then gently released her hand, murmuring, “Liana, sweetheart, I can only bring you this far.”

Liana stood rooted, but Elian was already there.

He said nothing, his gaze locked on her amidst the crowd.

Liana stared back.

What was that with Anya just now?

Why did he go cold on her the moment I arrived?

“Happy Birthday, Liana. Elian has a surprise for you,” Anya chirped, quickly stepping up beside them.

Liana gave her only a dismissive glance before returning her focus to Elian.

He was watching her intently, his expression serious.

All eyes were on her. On this November evening, no one felt the chill-only a buzz of anticipation.

And she, she was breathtaking.

“What should I do?” Elian asked her, his voice low and almost pained..

“What?” Liana whispered back.

“I want to hide you away.”

He took two more steps, finally within reach, and took her hand.

Her fingers were cold. The moment he touched them, he clasped them tightly.

Liana saw a flicker of annoyance in his eyes and tried to pull her hand from his warm grasp. He didn’t let go.

“I don’t mind if people know we’re divorcing,” she said.

“I do,” Elian stated firmly, turning and leading her toward a specially prepared area.

Confused, Liana followed until Anya suddenly rushed up beside them. “Liana, Elian’s coming down with something. He just took some medicine before coming back. Even though it’s your birthday, please make sure he doesn’t drink tonight.”

“You do it.”

Liana turned her cold gaze on Anya.

“Me?” Anya asked, feigning nervousness.

The entire crowd seemed to hold its breath. A love triangle drama was the best kind of entertainment.

“Yes, you,” Liana affirmed, her tone leaving no room for argument.

She was determined to give them exactly what they wanted, right in front of everyone.

“Since you’re the guest of honor tonight and will be very busy, you can leave looking after Elian to me,” Anya said sweetly, stepping closer.

“Just for tonight?” Liana’s voice was icy.

Anya faltered. At that precise moment, the large screen at the front of the garden lit up, projecting a proposal video.

It was Elian’s voice.

He said, “Anya, will you marry me…”

Everyone’s attention snapped to the screen, Liana’s included.

There was no kneeling, but it was unmistakably a proposal.

Elian held a ring box. Anya’s hands flew to her mouth in apparent shock.

The setting looked like a private lounge; they sat close together on a couch as Elian offered her the ring.

“Oh my god, what is going on?” Chloe and Lily exchanged bewildered looks.

“I’m going to ask what the hell is going on,” Lily fumed, marching toward Xander and the others.

The video froze, but in the vast garden, among hundreds of guests, a wave of hushed whispers began to swell.

“It’s Liana’s birthday. What’s the meaning of showing a video like this?” Lily demanded, stopping beside Xander and glaring at the person operating the laptop.

“Easy now. Patience,” Xander advised calmly.

“She’s not your friend, so it’s easy for you to be patient! None of you wants to see her happy. You all think she’s not good enough for Elian. You think Anya is the perfect match. Don’t think I don’t know!”

Lily vented angrily.
