Nathan gave a sheepish smile, then his gaze returned to Elian and Liana.

Everyone else followed suit, their minds churning with different thoughts.

Anya’s face was ghostly pale. Unable to bear it, she stepped in front of Elian. “Elian, you shouldn’t have shown that video tonight.”

“The truth needs to come out,” Elian replied flatly.

“The truth can come out after you let go of my hand,” Liana snapped, seething.

She didn’t mind him airing his proposal to Anya. In fact, it would make their divorce a foregone conclusion, putting an end to any future custody battles.

What she did mind was him holding her hand right now.

When Elian looked at Liana, his eyes were surprisingly soft.

Even if she was ready to kill, she was so breathtaking he’d gladly bare his throat and let her swing.

So, letting go? It wasn’t an option he’d even considered.

“Elian, let me go!” Liana struggled, her voice trembling with anger, though even her fiercest shout was quiet.

“Tonight is our big day. I’m not letting go,” he stated with absolute certainty. Before she could react, he pulled her firmly against his side, his hand securing her slender shoulder.

Seeing Elian pull Liana close was the final humiliation for Anya. But a flash of cunning in her eyes spurred her forward. “Elian, cut the video. Let me explain to Liana-”

“Not necessary,” Elian cut her off, his tone dismissive.

This time, he wouldn’t let anyone else explain it to her.

He would tell her himself. He would make her see it herself.

Even if mending fences was too late, it was for their future.

He looked down at Liana, his resolve firm. “Come with me.”

“No.” Liana wanted to be anywhere but near him.

“The video isn’t over. The truth isn’t fully revealed yet,” he reminded her, guiding—or rather, pulling-her forward.

Anya stared at the screen where the video had frozen due to a weak connection. She tried to go after Elian, but a staff member stepped in her path. “Please stay here, Miss Forrest.”

Anya recognized him as one of her father’s people. She glanced around frantically for her father but couldn’t spot him.

Whirling around, she headed straight for the AV station. Xander, Nathan, Evan, and Jett were all there.

Relieved, she rushed over. “Cut the video.”

“Too late,” Xander said coolly.

Jett moved to block her. “It’s Elian’s decision.”

Utter shame washed over Anya.

The video resumed playing.

“I want to get married. Now,” Elian’s voice stated from the screen.

“Okay.”

Anya’s voice in the video was breathless with excitement.

She had wanted to marry him, believing she was the only one worthy of him.

“But after we’re married, Theo will be our only child. Can you agree to that?”

Elian’s expression remained solemn, serious.

Looking closely, it didn’t even seem like a proposal-just a grim negotiation.

But no one cared about that. All eyes were on the massive diamond ring in his hand in the video.

“Why?” Anya in the video frowned, confused.

Listening now, Liana also felt a pang of confusion and found her eyes drawn back to the screen.

“I can’t take the risk of making Theo feel the slightest bit insecure. His parents entrusted him to

me.”

“Elian, that’s not fair to me. I can’t agree to that.”

Anya turned him down on the spot and walked away like she didn’t have a care.

Somehow, word had spread throughout the city that Elian, heir to the Locke Group, had proposed to Anya, and that she had rejected him. But no one ever knew his proposal wasn’t born of love.

A murmur rippled through the crowd. Anya, mortified, quickly slipped away into the shadows.

I can’t let Liana have this victory. Tonight cannot end with her being happy.

Not far away, Xander watched Anya leave and turned to Jett. “Follow her. No more slip-ups.”

“Got it,” Jett replied, immediately heading after her.

The evening breeze had turned cool.

The smooth silk of Liana’s skirt fluttered against the crisp fabric of Elian’s trousers, tangling briefly.

“So… Theo isn’t Anya’s child either?” she blurted out.
