But he needed it. He needed even a sliver of her affection.

Liana couldn’t see that need. To her, he just seemed domineering and unreasonable, treating her like a pet he expected to obey.

“No way. Ow-that hurts!”

Before she could finish, he bit down gently on her neck

Sensing her genuine pain, Elian immediately loosened the pressure, his mouth softening to light kisses and gentle licks.

The sensation made Liana feel strangely exposed and ashamed.

“Elian, don’t get horny with me. If you can’t hold it in, go find someone else.”

She thought it was just a physical urge he needed to satisfy, and she refused to be his outlet.

Hearing her tell him to go to someone else, Elian gripped her slender leg and hooked it around his waist, his deep eyes burning into hers in the dim light. “It’s too late for that.”

“Don’t-Elian-don’t you dare… Theo’s crying!”

Liana felt his hands beginning to roam and pushed frantically against his shoulders, whispering a warning.

Elian froze instantly. But there was no sound.

The room was silent except for the frantic pounding of his own heart, loud and deafening in the quiet darkness.

“Liana, please. Tell me you still love me,” he pleaded, his voice rough with suppressed desire and something deeper.

He knew she didn’t want this. It took every ounce of his willpower to hold back.

“I don’t. I’m going to sleep with Theo,” Liana retorted, but his forehead was pressed against her shoulder, and she couldn’t budge him an inch.

Weird thing-Theo had cried a bunch last night. Tonight, not a peep.

Just as she was pondering this, a phone rang shrilly.

“Wah… Mommy… Mommy…” Theo suddenly started sobbing.

At the same time, Elian flinched and quickly pulled his phone from his pants pocket. It was Anya. He answered immediately.

Liana shoved at him. “Get off! I need to check on Theo!

This time, Elian didn’t delay. He moved off her instantly, though the unresolved tension left him sitting stiffly on the edge of the bed, watching helplessly as Liana fled.

“Elian, how’s Theo tonight? Is he asleep? Has he been crying from the pain again?” Anya’s worried voice came through the line.

“You just scared him awake with your call,” Elian said, a touch of exasperation in his tone.

“Oh! Well… should I talk to him? Elian, I want to come back. Why don’t you take Liana home, and I’ll go stay with Theo instead?” Anya suggested.

She was already in her pajamas, sitting in her living room, sipping a warm ginger drink.

Her period was over a month late. She thought she might have caught a chill and had asked the housekeeper to make her some ginger tea.

“No need. You stay home and get a proper rest tonight Elian said before hanging up.

Turning. he spotted his jacket hanging at the foot of the bed and remembered something. He got up, grabbed the jacket, and headed out.

Liana was already gently soothing Theo.

“It hurts, ma’am. Theo hurts.” the little boy whimpered

“Where does it hurt, sweetie?” Liana asked, concerned.

“Here. Theo said, pointing a small finger toward his iner thigh.

“It hurts here. Mommy,” he added. his long eyelashes already glistening with unshed tears.

It was heartbreaking to see.

Liana immediately turned on the bedside lamp and pulled back the covers. Though it felt awkward undressing a little boy, she quickly pushed past her hesitation and gently removed his pajama bottoms.

The bruise wasn’t immediately obvious. She had to look closely to see the faint, greenish-yellow mark.

“Ma’am, blow on it.” Theo begged, his lower lip trembling.

Even though the bruise didn’t look severe, Liana gently blew on the spot.

Then she whispered. “How about I put some medicine on it? That will make it feel better.”

Theo nodded eagerly.

Elian stepped out from the inner area. Seeing Liana applying ointment to Theo’s leg, he sat beside her and leaned in for a closer look. “How did this happen?”

“Who knows? Maybe he fell down the stairs and got hurt. Or maybe…” Liana met his gaze squarely, recalling Roy’s words from earlier that day. “Maybe someone piched him.”

Elian frowned slightly, his eyes searching hers.

Liana held his gaze without flinching.
