Chapter 158 Why Are You Here So Late?
There were only those two small beds in the hospital room.
Liana stood quietly at the door, cracked it open, and didn’t look inside.
Yeah-pitch-black, couldn’t see a thing.
She simply strained her ears to listen.

She couldn’t help thinking the last time she pulled something this sneaky was back in grade school.
Her phone vibrated. Lily, because she hadn’t gotten a reply, was calling.
Liana planned to come back again after midnight, so she answered while slipping out to the hall.
“You’re still up?” Lily asked.
“Yes. At the hospital, checking on Theo.”
“Right, Theo! He was definitely pushed down those stair by Anya. I have a really strong feeling about it.”
“Where’s the proof?” was all Liana asked.
Lily fell silent immediately, but then said, “Didn’t Elian say you were the first one he wanted to propose to? Make him get the evidence for you. If he’s willing to help, then maybe he really does like you. If he refuses, then we’ll know where his heart truly lies. What do you think?”
Liana gave a faint, humorless smile.
I already tried. I didn’t test his heart, but the result is the same
She found an empty room and sat quietly on the edge of the bed. “I’m a bit busy right now. Let’s talk at school tomorrow.”
She hung up and fell into a daze, staring into space.
Her hand brushed against her lower abdomen, bringing her back. She gently rested her palm on her stomach, a silent greeting to the little one inside.
Roy had said the baby looked healthy.
Later, in the dead of night, she quietly approached the room again and opened the door a crack.
Silence. No sound at all.
They must be asleep. Perfect timing.
She had just started to creep in, bent low, when her head bumped into a solid, warm wall.
She looked up instinctively.
Elian stood towering over her, a hint of amusement in s eyes.
“Mrs. Locke, sneaking in at this hour to bust a cheater?” he teased in a low voice.

Liana slowly straightened up, mortified. It took her a moment to find her words. “I came to check on Theo.”
Elian said nothing else, simply moving aside to let her enter.
Liana had no choice but to walk in, gripping the strap of her bag, nerves spiking for no reason at all.
Elian closed the door behind her and leaned back against the wall, hands in his pockets, watching her silently.
“Elian, who is it?” Anya emerged from the inner cot room, rubbing her eyes.
Her hair was disheveled, clearly just woken up. Her clothes were wrinkled, and a button on her blouse was done up wrong.
The moment Liana saw her like that, the first thought that popped into her head was-
Could you two just stand together and hug each other so I can take a picture?
But that thought remained internal. Neither of them heard it.
“Liana? Why are you here so late? I’ve got Theo. You’ve got class tomorrow-go get some rest,” Anya said, her tone dripping with false concern.
“You’re right,” Liana agreed, turning to leave immediately.
Elian watched her, a faint, cool smile in his
eyes.
Liana had to look at him because he was still blocking the doorway.
She took a breath and walked over. “Mr. Locke, if you would please move.”
Elian looked down at her, that amused glint still in his eyes. He didn’t speak and didn’t move.
“Elian, let her go. You being here with me is enough,” Anya said sweetly, seeing he wasn’t inclined to let Liana leave.
“Go back to sleep,” Elian said, his tone flat. The look he gave her was a shade colder.
Under that gaze, Anya had no choice but to head back in. But soon she turned back, unwilling to give up. “Elian, do you want me to explain last night to Liana?”
“No need,” Elian replied curtly.
Liana’s eyes were fixed on the doorknob, so close. Just as she was about to reach for it, Elian’s warm hand. covered hers.
He didn’t even look at her, but his aim was perfect.
She looked up at him reflexively. “I forgot-Yvonne told me I didn’t need to come tonight.”
