Chapter 166 Didn’t You Disable That Camera Ages Ago?
Lily looked at the message and immediately typed back “Who’s scared?”
Xander sent just one word, “Address.”
To prove she wasn’t intimidated, Lily gave him Liana’s address.
Having just visited Theo at the hospital, Xander saw the address and smiled.
When he’d asked her to dinner earlier and she’d said she had plans, he thought she was just brushing him. off. It seemed she was telling the truth.
“See? You do like him. One little taunt and you bite,” Chloe teased.
Liana hugged her knees, watching Lily blush, and couldn’t help but smile.
Matters of the heart-you can’t just turn them off because you want to.
Unless you’re miles apart, that is.
When someone’s too close, it’s easy to get tangled up.
Fifteen minutes later, Xander’s car pulled up outside Liana’s building.
Lily sighed after checking her phone. “I’ll go down and make things clear with him tonight.”
She stood up. Chloe followed suit. “I should leave, too. Ugh.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Don’t ask. Ran into a bastard.” Chloe kneaded her waist again, wincing.
Lily immediately tugged up her sweater for a look. She frowned, leaned in, and snapped, “That’s a huge bruise! What happened?”
“That bastard was all sweet before marriage, cooking, cleaning, playing the perfect husband. After the wedding, he started hitting me.”
Chloe’s eyes welled up, but she bit her lip, refusing to play the victim.
“If he’s really abusing you, I say divorce him. Fast,” Liana said firmly, looking at the injury.
They said, “Don’t break up a marriage,” but a bad one? I needed to end.
“I tried. He beat me up, then just… disappeared.” Chloe’s anger flared at the memory.
“What is going on with you two? I’m swearing off marriage. I’m going down there to make things crystal clear,” Lily declared, heading for the door.
Seeing her leave, Liana remembered Elian’s jewelry. She turned to Chloe. “Wait here for a bit. I’ll just see her off and be right back. Don’t leave yet.”
“Okay.”
Chloe had actually come tonight hoping to ask for help, but with Liana’s own troubles, she hadn’t known how to bring it up. Now that Liana offered, she wasn’t about to refuse.
“Give these to Xander for me. Ask him to pass them on Elian,” Liana said.
“Aren’t these from Elian?”
“He even took back the money for my mom’s medical bills. You think he won’t ask for these back eventually?” Liana explained.
But when she slipped on her sneakers by the door, yanked it open, and was about to bolt, she froze where she stood.
Elian was sitting on the floor, leaning against her door. He looked up at the sound,
Liana’s heart felt like it was on a rollercoaster. She had never resented his presence at her doorstep more.
“To the hospital,” was all she managed to say.
The sky was still dark. Theirs was the only car on the road for long stretches.
As he drove, Elian asked, “Why are you so convinced Anya is abusing Theo?”
Liana turned to look at him. “Because I don’t love her.”
Elian glanced at her, then focused back on the road, his voice steady. “I never loved Anya.”
“Whether you love her or not is your business. I don’t care. I just don’t want a child’s life ruined because of your inaction.” Liana’s tone was icy.
Right now, she utterly despised him.
“You installed a camera. Why not just check the feed?” Elian said it like it was nothing.
Liana’s mind went blank for a second. She stared ahead, then turned sharply to look at him again. “Since when have you become such a hypocrite, Elian? Didn’t you disable that camera ages ago?”
“Hmm?”
Elian sounded genuinely surprised. At the same time, he pulled out his own phone and began swiping through it.
