Liana looked at the jar of dark brown sugar for a few quiet seconds, then scooped a spoonful into her oatmeal.

Seeing her calm acceptance, Elian finally spoke, “I remember you always liked it this way.”

“Hmm,” Liana acknowledged.

After breakfast, she looked at him. “How are you feeling today? Still dizzy?”

Elian’s expression tightened. He took a sip of coffee and nodded. “Yes, still quite dizzy. Heading to the hospital for an IV later.”

It was Elian who asked next, “Theo keeps asking when you will visit. When might you have some time?”
