Chapter 217 Don’t Ever Risk Yourself for Me Again
“You’re safe now.”
Elian’s voice was low. He bundled her into his arms, holding her tightly.
Liana took one look at him, and tears just spilled over.
She’d sworn not to cry for him anymore.
Well, maybe she was just scared.
After all, she’d nearly been forced into donating part of her liver.
For this moment, she leaned solidly against his chest, letting him guide her into his car.
The man who had taken her was being pinned down by the police.
Elian was speaking with the officers; she didn’t know what was being said.

Through the car window, Liana saw the man’s hate-filled glare directed at her. But then his gaze shifted to Elian before he quickly looked away.
As a kid, she’d tried everything to get close to the Forrests and never had a chance. Now, she was almost thirty, and they were suddenly in her line of sight-and they wanted her dead.
Evan rushed over with the car. When Elian finished with the police, he got in and sat with her in the back.
Liana had calmed down. Seeing him enter, she instinctively shifted away on the seat.
Elian watched the movement, then simply reached over pulled her by the shoulder, and tucked her back against his side.
He didn’t say a word. Liana pushed lightly against him, but he didn’t budge. She finally looked up at him.
Elian stared into her red-rimmed eyes, choosing to remain silent.
For some reason, Liana felt like crying again. She turned her head away from his gaze, managing a hoarse whisper, “It’s stuffy. Let go.”
Elian didn’t release her, but he did roll down the window.
“So… what exactly happened back there?”
Evan, who had come after Lucas’ call to see if help was needed, had witnessed Elian throwing himself in front of the car.
That moment had genuinely terrified him.
If the CEO of Locke Group had been hit and killed by a car, it would be a major catastrophe.
Elian wasn’t the reckless type. For him to act so recklessly this time….
Evan couldn’t help glancing at Liana in the rearview mirror.
Liana thought about the recent events, unsure where to begin.

She didn’t want to talk anyway. Thinking about it just froze her up and made her hate it all, and it wouldn’t change a thing.
“Just drive. Don’t ask.” Elian told Evan.
“Got it.”
Evan shut up. The car headed south across town. Liana snapped back to herself, glanced out, then spoke. “Evan, please take me back to school.”
“Head to the penthouse,” Elian spoke again.
Liana turned to him, questioning. “Why there?”
“You’ve already submitted your resignation. Those two classes will go on just fine without you.”
Elian finally deigned to speak to her directly.
Liana was speechless for a moment. After a pause, she managed, “How do you know I resigned?”
“Your school leaders are constantly buttering me up for funding for a new campus. Of course, they’d keep me informed about your comings and goings.”
He continued, but when he looked at her again, the hardness in his eyes had softened into something gentle.
His sudden tenderness left Liana flustered. She lowered her head awkwardly, then remembered something else and looked at him. “And earlier-how did you know I was being taken?”
This time, Elian didn’t answer. He just looked at her for a long time.
The image of her lunging for the steering wheel flashed in his mind. As he studied her, his emotions churned wildly.
Seeing him lost in thought again, Liana didn’t press.
“Don’t ever risk yourself for me again.”
Elian’s voice was suddenly low and gruff.
Liana’s heart skipped a beat. She looked at him.
He added, “We’re almost divorced. Not worth dying over.”
Yes, with a distinct chill.
“I wasn’t.”
Liana averted her eyes.
“Good.”
Elian also looked away.
Evan’s eyes were practically glued to the rearview mirror, wishing he had eyes in the back of his head.
