“Even though he signed, I don’t think he’ll go get the final decree. Remember, their wedding is coming up.”
Nathan finally spoke up.
Then, a bomb went off in Anya’s mind. Wedding?
Right. That wedding on the 28th.
Anya’s mouth fell open in stubborn disbelief, staying that way for a long moment. Then, she shook her head. “They won’t have a wedding. Liana has moved in with Quentin.”
The Riverview Avenue Apartment was empty.
Elian left the building, looking utterly dejected. He dialed the number. “Liana, get back here.”
Lily’s Apartment.
They stood in the hallway for a long time.
No one spoke. Only the faint scent of jasmine drifted from him.
Yeah. A woman’s perfume.
“If you have something to say, Mr. Locke, please say it.”
Liana’s hands pressed against the cold, hard marble tiles behind her, forcing herself to speak first.
Elian was deeply agitated. He turned to the window and lit a cigarette.
Liana felt cold. Seeing his silence, she turned to go inside.
“Don’t you dare.”
“So what is it?”
Annoyed that his first words were a threat, Liana fired back.
Elian’s fingers, holding the cigarette, trembled slightly. Then, the jealousy he’d been suppressing for so long could no longer be hidden in his sharp gaze.
Liana had been furious, but seeing the shift in his eyes, he suddenly felt lost and lowered her head.
The hallway was eerily quiet. Elian opened the window, ook another drag facing the cold, desolate night sky, then his expression hardened.
“If you’re not going to talk, I’m going inside.”
Liana was only wearing thin pajamas. Unable to outlast him in the cold, she decided to retreat to her warm bed.
Elian remained silent, just stubbing out the half-smoke cigarette on the windowsill and placing it where someone cleaning could easily see it.

Liana had already turned to leave, convinced he wouldn’t speak. But just as she grabbed the door handle, before she could enter the code, when-
Her wrist was seized, and she was pressed back against the same wall.
He loomed over her with an intimidating, unyielding presence. “Why aren’t you at Riverview Avenue Apartment?”
His imposing aura stunned Liana into momentary silence.
“Answer me.” He moved closer, his voice raised.
“Because I didn’t feel safe there, alright? Mmm…”
Before she could finish, his mouth aggressively captured hers.
She froze. A buzzing filled her ears, but tears instantly spilled from her lashes.
By the time she remembered to struggle, she was already trapped between the unyielding wall and the cage of his arms.
Elian’s kiss grew increasingly dominant, almost violent, as if he wanted to devour her whole.
Liana, already pushed to her limit by the Forrests’ threats, had been bottling it all up, just wanting to hide until she could get away from these people. And now he was forcing her like this.
She couldn’t break free. A wave of self-loathing made her whimper softly.
She was alone. No one cared.
They all shoved their will onto her like it was nothing.
She wasn’t as brave as he thought.
Even as an adult, she was terrified of strangers breaking in at night with a knife.
Blades didn’t have eyes.
She didn’t want to die.
She suddenly hated him so much.
For two whole years, he’d been like a guardian in her life.
No man had ever protected her like that before.
The only person who truly loved her was her mother- completely different kind of love. Especially since he was a man her own age,
It was inevitable she’d fall into his indulgent care. But…
In the blink of an eye, they’d become a couple with zero trust.
