Chapter 220 Love Doesn’t Bend to Force
“Elian, are you really going through with the divorce?”
Nathan finally voiced his curiosity.
After all, not long ago, Elian had been trying everything to avoid it.
“Can’t force a square peg into a round hole,” he said flatly.
The image of her getting into Quentin’s car late at night flashed in his mind again.
Even if it wasn’t technically “late at night,” to him, it was.

“Heard she’s preparing to study abroad. Oh, and Quentin applied for a further study program too.”
Xander dropped the line out of nowhere.
Elian’s face instantly darkened. He turned to look at Xander. “What do you mean?”
“From what Lily said, their schools aren’t far apart,” Xander answered.
Then Elian’s expression turned utterly stormy.
Though he said nothing, the air around him seemed to freeze solid.
“If you can’t let go, talk to her properly. I don’t think Ms. Keane is someone who can’t be reasoned with.”
Seeing the storm brewing over him, Xander added a bit of advice.
“Yeah, man, open up. A female friend told me men are most attractive when they’re honest and serious. Women love it when guys handle things for real.”
Nathan chimed in, trying to be encouraging.
But Elian didn’t say another word. His face remained a thundercloud.
So she’s not going abroad alone. She’s going with him?
Which means… she really isn’t pregnant.
“It’s almost December. Freezing outside. Feels like snow. Huh, Anya’s not here yet?” Jett said as he pushed the door open.
Nathan suppressed a smile. You two arriving ten minutes apart isn’t exactly a new pattern.
“Heard her grandpa needs a liver transplant. She said she was stopping by the hospital first,” Xander said evenly.
“Her grandpa’s that sick? She might not make it tonight then,” Jett added, then glanced cautiously at the brooding Elian. “What’s with him?”
“Ms. Keane doesn’t want him anymore. He’s sulking.”
Xander looked at Elian again, pouring him a drink as he spoke.

Elian took the glass but remained silent and brooding.
Soon after, as expected, Anya walked in. “Wow, it’s freezing out there! Sorry I’m late. Family stuff.”
“What’s up?”
Jett shifted his knees to let her pass, engaging her.

“My grandpa’s liver is failing. The family kept it from me. I just found out tonight and went to the hospital.”
Anya sat down beside Elian, explaining to the group.
Elian, however, subtly moved his jacket to prevent her from sitting on it.
Anya noticed the distancing gesture immediately but waited until she’d finished speaking before asking with innocent concern, “Elian, what’s wrong? You’re not upse I’m a few minutes late, are you? You have no idea how pitiful my grandpa looks. His face is all sallow and gray.”
“Why don’t we all go visit him sometime?” Jett suggested
Anya said, “Really? That would be wonderful! He’d be so happy to see you all.”
Xander and Nathan both glanced at Elian first. Seeing no reaction from him, Nathan spoke up, “I’ll pass. Too many visitors might disturb his rest.”
“Then don’t go. But Nathan, you’ve been so distant lately. You know I’m blunt; sometimes I say things without thinking. Don’t take it to heart.”
Anya looked at him with an understanding, forgiving expression.
Nathan nodded and fell silent
“Xander, are you busy too? What about you, Elian?” Any pressed.
Elian answered, “I’ll go.”

Anya looked up at him. “Right now?”
“Need to go to Riverview Avenue,” Elian said, already walking away.
But hearing “Riverview Avenue” was like a knife to Anyas heart. She quickly grabbed his sleeve. “Elian, we’re having dinner together tonight.”
“You guys eat. I’ve got something to ask Mrs. Locke.”
