Chapter 226 Settling the Score

“I told you I’d return that slap one day,” Liana said coldly

But Anya immediately burst into tears, looking at her with hurt. “But you hit me twice.”

“The second one was for your shamelessness-for daring to steal your sister’s man,” Liana replied.

It felt like a bucket of ice water had been dumped over nya’s head. She couldn’t believe Liana could say something so high and mighty.

She looked to Elian for help, but he was simply staring at Liana’s hand, his voice low. “It’s all red. Does it

hurt?”

Anya’s face was swollen from the slaps, and hearing Elian worry about Liana’s hand made the humiliation burn hotter.

Liana also looked at Elian, puzzled.

She’d just hit the person he treasured most, and he was worried about Liana’s hand?

Liana stared at him in disbelief for a long moment before remembering to pull her hand from his warm grasp. Then she turned her cold gaze back to Anya.

“Elian and I have never crossed any lines! I only came in like this today because I heard you two were getting divorced, and I-”

“Even if we are, until the divorce is final, I am still his lawful wife.”

Liana raised her hand, displaying the two rings on her finger-each one something Anya coveted but could never have.

Elian’s gaze on Liana grew even more intense, a hint of pride flickering in his eyes.

Seeing the wedding ring and the Locke family heirloom ring Elian had given Liana for her birthday felt like a knife twisting in Anya’s heart. But she became even more gentle and pitiful. “Of course. You are still Elian’s wife. My dear sister, you’ve truly misunderstood me.”

Liana watched Anya’s performance calmly. She’d always wanted to confront Anya in front of Elian, but she knew Anya would just deny everything. It would be a waste of breath.

Just like when she’d accused Anya of abusing Theo. How had that ended? Nothing.

Anya was like someone with diplomatic immunity in Elan’s world.

Thinking this, Liana looked back at Elian, asking calmly “Have you found the mastermind behind the kidnapping? Or the person who ordered my apartment to be trashed?”

Anya’s heart skipped a beat. She tensed.

“Not yet.”

Elian’s reply was heavy.

“Not yet, or are you choosing to cover for her?”

Anya was so scared she felt her heart stop. She looked from Liana to Elian, terrified he might suspect her.

Seeing Liana’s gaze on Anya, Elian gave a wry smile.

He understood now what was going on with Liana.

Someone must’ve told her something.

He glanced again at Anya’s swollen face, then said quietly, “You should leave. My wife and I have things to discuss.”

“Are you still going to see my grandpa?”

“Yes.”

“Okay. I’ll wait for you at the hospital. Oh, and Liana, you probably don’t know yet. Grandpa’s liver is failing. He needs a transplant. If you have time, go see him. He’s our grandpa, after all.”

Before leaving, Anya made sure to add those last few remarks.

Liana just stared at her coldly.

She hadn’t expected Elian to visit Gerald, but on second thought, it made perfect sense. He and Anya were so close-of course he’d go.

Right now, though, she refused to lose to Anya, so her edge only sharpened.

Anya, unnerved by her stare, turned to leave. At the door, she looked back. “Elian, I actually had my cook make the soup. It’s in the living room. Have it while it’s warm before you go.”

Elian said nothing more, just kept a firm hold on Liana’s hand.

Liana tried several times to pull away, failing each time. Once Anya was gone, she couldn’t hold back any longer. She turned and struggled violently.

Elian suddenly said, “Ah. My wound split open.”

Liana remembered the cut on his palm and froze.

Elian still held her wrist, but he opened his other hand the one with the knife wound-and looked at her seriously.

He said, “It was almost healed. I will never get hurt for someone else again.”

Liana remembered what she’d said when bandaging his hand at the hospital. She just hadn’t expected him to remember too.

After leaving the hotel, Liana returned to Riverview Avenue. It should be safer during the day. She needed to pack her things.

She decided to crash at Lily’s place for a while.

And then…
