His Hidden Family My Ruined Marriage (Liana) novel Chapter 228

Chapter 228 A Clear Warning

Anya stood beside them, her heart in her throat as she watched Elian.

Elian had always respected elders. She hoped he would force Liana to come.

That way, Liana would finally see her true place in Elians heart.

But after hearing this, Elian gave a derisive laugh. Then, under the confused gazes of the two, his demeanor shifted completely.

He rose and buttoned his suit jacket, one button at a time, calm and unhurried.

Both Gerald and Anya held their breath, waiting for his reply.

Gerald thought if Elian knew what was good for him, held carve out Liana’s liver and deliver it to the operating room. That way, when the Forrests and Lockes finally united through marriage, he wouldn’t look down on the young man.

But then…

Elian finished buttoning his jacket, ensuring he was perfectly presentable, and said, “My wife likes me neat.”

Anya and her grandpa were momentarily speechless.

Simultaneously, a bad feeling washed over Anya.

“Gerald, let me make myself perfectly clear. If a single hair on my wife’s head is harmed, I will… end you.”

Elian’s half-lidded eyes bore into Gerald. With that, he turned and walked out.

“Elian…”

Anya was stunned he’d called her grandpa by name to his face.

“Elian, you stop right there!”

It took Gerald a moment to recover before he issued the command.

But the room soon fell silent again. His command meant nothing to Elian.

Anya quickly chased after him but saw he was on a call and simply followed at a distance.

“Is it confirmed?”

In the long hallway, Elian’s low voice was especially tense.

Anya didn’t know what he was investigating, but she began to feel uneasy.

“Yes. That night, Mr. Conrad drove Mrs. Locke to the apartment across from the hospital. Mrs. Locke went upstairs, and Mr. Conrad stayed in his car outside the entire night. He drove her to work the next morning. But Mrs. Locke probably doesn’t know he kept watch all night.”

“Noted.”

Chapter 228 A Clear Warning

A slight relaxation flickered across Elian’s features. He was about to hang up.

The voice on the other end added, “Boss, one more thing. Miss Forrest has visited Mrs. Locke at the school several times. Not sure what she said.”

A cold, sharp glint flashed in Elian’s narrowed eyes but was quickly suppressed.

He ended the call. He could easily understand Quentin’s foolish vigil outside-just a man acting stupidly in love. But Anya visiting Liana…

Thinking of how worked up Liana got lately whenever she mentioned Anya, his gaze went dark.

He entered the elevator and was about to close the door when Anya rushed in. “Elian, I need to talk to you.”

Elian gave her a detached look but pressed the close button.

Anya moved to his side, voice small. “I think Liana and Grandpa might have some misunderstandings about us. Can we clear things up?”

“Anya.”

“Yes?”

Anya immediately focused her attention on him, hoping he would see the marks on her face, see Liana’s cruelty, and know that woman wasn’t as innocent as he thought.

“What exactly did you say to Liana?”

Elian had known she was following him. He didn’t care. This was the question that mattered.

“What?”

Anya was momentarily taken aback but quickly recovered, looking at him with innocent confusion. “Did my sister say something to you? Her misunderstanding of me runs so deep. Elian, I hope you won’t just take her word for it, okay?”

“I do need to look at a few things very carefully.”

Elian looked at her swollen face, his eyes growing even colder.

Anya, who had just tentatively touched his wrist, immediately withdrew her hand at the chill. “Elian, I—”

“Anya, do you need a warning?”

“A… warning?”

She asked hesitantly, suspecting Liana had been whispering poisonous lies in his ear.

“If anything-anything-happens to Liana from now on I will hold you personally responsible.

Understood?”

Elian spoke to her with his usual, deceptively mild tone.

The elevator reached the ground floor and opened. He walked away without a backward glance.
