Elian held the plate with one hand. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he put an arm around her back to help her up, propping a pillow behind her.
“Your throat is hurt; you can’t take anything too hot. I ran it under cool water. See if it’s okay,” he spoke, twirling some noodles onto his fork, supporting them with a spoon, and bringing them to her lips.
Liana’s breath caught. Her voice was soft and hoarse. “You don’t have to take care of me like this anymore.”
“Give me this last time. After this, it’ll be another man taking care of you.” His voice was low, a pang of sourness spreading silently in his chest.
Liana didn’t argue. The noodles were at her lips, and she was so hungry she could have wolfed them down.
Maybe because of the baby inside, she craved everything lately but couldn’t eat much.
Elian had left the door unlocked. Nathan walked right in, only to freeze at the sight of the intimate scene in the bedroom-Elian feeding Liana.
And they want a divorce?
Nathan cleared his throat awkwardly. “Ahem.”
“You’re here. Come in. Stop polluting the air.” Elian’s tone was flat.
Nathan quickly shut up, walking in with the document folder. “You’re really divorcing?”
“Cut the crap. Put the papers down and get out.”
Elian continued feeding Liana.
Liana watched Elian’s unyielding, solemn expression, then stole a glance at Nathan.
Nathan stood behind him, visibly holding back, looking both defiant and pitiful. Catching Liana’s glance, he immediately dropped the folder and fled as if chased.
Liana didn’t know why Nathan seemed to bristle around her every time, but she couldn’t dwell on it.
“Finish the noodles first. I said I’ll sign, so I will,” Elian explained, seeing her eyes dart to the documents as if afraid he’d renege.
Liana had no choice but to keep eating.
When she finished, Elian stood with the plate. “I’m kind hungry too. You wouldn’t mind letting me grab a plate of spaghetti, would you?”
“Take your time,” she replied.
“Thank you.” Elian looked absurdly grateful, then left with the plate.
Liana leaned over, picked up the folder from beside her and opened it.
The moment she saw the words “Divorce Agreement,” she felt a wave of relief.
She had a feeling. When Elian told her to name her condition, he knew she’d ask for a divorce. He was truly

Probably when he went to the kidnappers’ lair to save them, he realized just how important Anya was to him.
Liana didn’t read further. She waited quietly.
Elian sat at her tiny dining table, unhurriedly transferring the now-soggy noodles into the plate Liana had used, and ate them.
And that’s it? Just divorce?
A sharp glint flashed in Elian’s eyes. He quickly cleaned the table and returned to the bedroom.
Liana kept a pen on her nightstand for marking books she read at night.
Elian wasted no words. Sitting on the edge of her bed, he said, “Give it to me.”
His sudden nearness made her tense up, breath snagging. Then she realized he meant the agreement and handed it over.
Elian opened it, then leaned over to grab the pen.
His signature was like him-sharp, powerful, steady. He signed one copy quickly, his head bowed as he opened the second. He handed the signed copy to Liana while still looking at the other.
Liana took it, holding her breath. A secret flutter of excilement rose in her heart.
That’s it. Soon, I won’t be Mrs. Locke anymore.
Seeing him sign the second copy, she felt a small thrill.
Elian held the pen out to her. When she didn’t take it, he finally looked up. “What? Regretting it?”
Liana was startled.
“If you regret it, these papers can still be voided,” he added.
“I’m not regretting anything.” Liana immediately took the pen and signed quickly.
Her handwriting wasn’t as forceful as his, but it had a gentle, serene beauty.
Watching her sign with such speed made Elian’s heart ache with bitterness.
The truth was…
He didn’t want a divorce at all.
But if he didn’t pull a move today, she might treat him like thin air from now on.
There was still time.
Thinking this, Elian endured the pain, watching quietly as she signed both copies.
“Done.” Liana finished, straightened the papers, and handed them back to him with a sense of relief.

“Silly. You didn’t even look. Not afraid I’d cheat you?” Elan took them leisurely, reminding her.

Liana’s mind buzzed. But after a moment’s thought, she asked curiously, “What valuable thing do I have left for you to cheat me out of?”
“Who says? Everything on you is a treasure, Ms. Keane,” Elian said, already slipping the agreements back into the folder.
A strange feeling of unease settled over Liana. “Maybe… let me look at them again.”
“If there are any issues later, Attorney Chase will contact you. For now, rest.” Elian said.
Liana looked at him, bewildered. A little voice said she’d let her guard down. But he was already walking out of the bedroom.

But he didn’t leave.
Liana remained leaning against the headboard, her gaze fixed on the doorway.
