Anya felt a chill under Liana’s gaze and hurried to explain further.
“Yes, isn’t it lucky? Just a hair’s breadth away.” Liana’s voice was icy.
She had no proof. But Anya’s expression confirmed the kidnapping was definitely connected to her.
“I came here in good faith to check on you. How can you accuse me like that? I’m… I’m your sister!” Anya’s eyes darted, catching a figure approaching. She immediately stepped inside, grabbing Liana’s hand.
“Shut up. My mother never told me she had another daughter.” Liana’s wrist hurt from the grip. She instinctively tried to pull away.
“But we share the same father! I’m sorry, Liana! Ah-!” Anya suddenly stumbled back dramatically, as if about to fall.
Elian, returning from grocery shopping, moved with lightning speed, catching her and pulling her into his arms. “Careful.”
“Elian, don’t blame my sister. She grew up outside the family. She has every right to hit me.” Anya clutched the fabric over her chest, whispering weakly in his arms before pretending to faint.
As her hand fell away, fresh red blood seeped through the fabric beneath.
The groceries Elian held dropped to the floor. He shot an angry look at Liana. “She almost died saving Theo. She came to apologize the moment she was out of danger. Couldn’t you just hold back?”
“I didn’t push her.” Liana wouldn’t let anyone frame her
She already knew he didn’t love her. Now she realized there wasn’t even trust left.
“Take care of Theo. We’ll settle this later,” Elian said, then scooped up Anya and left.
Only then did Liana notice he’d brought a child.
Theo stood not far away, watching her quietly, seeming little afraid.
Liana’s heart gave a strange tug. She felt an inexplicable pity for the little boy.
Theo was very quiet. Nervous, he soon bent down to pick up a fallen tomato from the grocery bag.
Liana’s emotions were a tangled mess. She didn’t understand why he’d brought his and Anya’s child to her apartment. But seeing the little boy’s well-behaved demeanor, she stepped forward to help.
Soon, she and the little boy sat on the sofa, staring at each other.
The place wasn’t large, but the two of them somehow made it feel even smaller.
Suddenly, tears began to roll silently down Theo’s cheeks, but he didn’t make a sound,
Liana was startled. Why are you crying? Your father thinks I pushed your mom, and now you’re going to cry like I’m abusing you?
Theo stared at her, his tears falling faster. He bit his tiny lip, refusing to make a noise.

Liana’s heart nearly broke. She quickly knelt before him taking his little hands. “Don’t cry. Why are you crying? I’m not a bad person, okay?”
Theo suddenly burst into loud, wailing sobs.
Liana’s mouth fell open. She was at a complete loss.
She didn’t know how to comfort a child.
She was a teacher, but she taught rebellious teenagers. A two-year-old was beyond her experience.
She tried to wipe his tears, but his face was so small and delicate, she was afraid of hurting him.
Yet, the moment her fingers touched his cheek, his sobs stopped.
His chin still quivered, tears still fell, but he looked at Liana with pitiful, wet eyes.
“Shh… are you hungry? Or thirsty? But I don’t have any snacks or juice here. Wait, do two-year-olds even eat those?” She rambled.
“Hug.”
Theo barely heard her words. He simply opened his little arms, wanting to be held.
Liana froze.
A hug?
Hold Elian and Anya’s child?
No way!
“Hey… hey, don’t cry. I’m not hugging you.” Liana stood up, flustered. Her own body ached all over. How could she hold their child?
An hour later, the doorbell rang.
