There were at least a dozen drawers under the desk in the study. Liana checked each one. Nothing.

She was certain it had been in the desk drawer. But now it was empty.

“We’ve submitted the application. The timeline depends on the court’s schedule now,” Elian said from the doorway, his voice patient as he spoke to Anya.

He was always so patient with Anya. Was that the magic of a first love?

Liana straightened up and walked past him, a heavy sense of defeat settling in her chest.

Elian’s gaze followed her, then he spoke softly into the phone, “Take care of yourself. When you’re better, I’ll bring Theo to see you. That’s it for now.”

Liana went to the living room.

She stood before the coffee table for a long time, a lump in her throat.

All the things she’d left behind after signing the agreement were still here. Dust gathered along uneven edges and corners.

She spotted a document. Hope flared. She bent down, moved the items on top, and her eyes immediately stung.

Not the marriage certificate. It was their pregnancy planning packet.

A familiar warmth suddenly enveloped her side. Elian had crouched beside her. His long fingers picked up the document.

The day they’d decided to try for a baby, they’d both been a little giddy.

At first, with her mother’s illness and their own unfamiliarity, kids weren’t on the radar. Then her mother brought it up, his family hinted… and she, warmed by his steady, daily kindness, began to want it too. That night had been… different,

The cruel twist of fate came too fast. She was already pregnant.

Of course she’d keep the baby. She loved children.

But what should have been their shared treasure was now hers alone.

Pregnancy planning packet…

Her voice caught. She didn’t want him so close, so she sank into the couch and kept searching.

Elian sat beside her, unhurried, watching her go through things.

“Even with the divorce, all the jewelry I gave you during the marriage was a gift. You can take it all.” His voice was quiet. He still held that document.

“When I asked for a divorce before, you wouldn’t even let me take the clothes you bought me. I didn’t think you were so generous,” Liana said flatly.

Elian gave an awkward, self-deprecating chuckle. The irony wasn’t lost on him.

Seeing how she held a grudge, he couldn’t help explaining, “I told you-back then I said those things because I didn’t want a divorce.”

“So? Do you want me to take everything now?” She looked directly at him.

Her directness sent a sharp pang through his chest.

He set the pregnancy planning packet on the corner of the coffee table, then crouched, took her hand, kneaded her fingers gently, and looked up at her, serious. “Don’t divorce. Please?”

“Make Anya and Theo disappear. If you can do that, I won’t divorce you.”

The words were a challenge, spoken in a moment of wild, bitter defiance.

In that instant, she thought if he actually did it, she’d tell him about the baby. She’d pretend the last few weeks were a nightmare, and they could go back to their life.

But he was silent.

The moment she mentioned making them disappear, he went quiet. Then came a soft, humorless laugh.

After a long pause, he spoke again, “They won’t interfere with our life. I’ll take care of them. But you are my wife. My only wife. And we will have our own children together.”

He was deadly serious.

“I will get a divorce. And I will have a child. But Mr. Locke,” Liana said, looking at his composed face and seeing only profound selfishness, “that child won’t be yours.”

She knew he meant every word. He genuinely wanted a family with her and to take care of Anya and Theo.

He was no different from other rich men who thought they could have it all-a wife at home and the other woman on the side.
