Chapter 71 The DNA Result Was In
Liana finished, believing her honesty would make things easier for the family..
Instead, Earl fixed his stern gaze on his grandson. “And you? Is this what you want?”
“Yes.”
Elian’s hands rested on the sofa arms, his cold eyes fixed on Liana as he confirmed.
“Dinner is ready,” the butler announced.
Elian was the first to stand and walk out.

Rosalind held Liana’s hand as they followed. “Sweetheart, your hands are like ice. Did you follow up with the doctor after the miscarriage? You might be anemic.”
“Grandma, I’m fine. The doctor checked. I probably just didn’t dress warmly enough today,” Liana reassured her patiently.
She couldn’t let Rosalind actually send for a doctor.
I need an excuse to leave tonight. Tomorrow could get out of hand.
During dinner, her phone buzzed in her purse-a message from Lily.
Lily sent a test result to Liana’s phone.
Liana didn’t check it immediately out of respect for the elders.
After the meal, Rosalind insisted she drink another bowl of the bitter, herb-laced restorative soup. Not wanting to disappoint, Liana forced it down.
Soon, the housekeeper came downstai
“Mr. Locke and Mrs. Locke’s room is ready.”
“Good,” Rosalind said, patting Liana’s hand. “Stay tonigh, dear. I want to talk more.”
“Grandma, I have lessons to prepare.”
She couldn’t possibly sleep in the same room as the man she was divorcing, but saying so would make it awkward, so she played it soft with Rosalind.
“But tomorrow is Saturday!”
“School has Saturday classes too, Grandma. I promise I visit again soon,” Liana pleaded, leaning her head on Rosalind’s shoulder.
“It’s so late. Driving back is exhausting. Why not just stay?” Linda chimed in, glancing at her son for support.
Elian stood up. “I have plans with Xander.”
“Then you can drive Liana home,” David suggested pragmatically, seeing neither wanted to stay. It would give them time alone.
“Would the esteemed Ms. Keane deign to ride in my car” Elian’s shadowed eyes locked on her as he asked.

“Yes,” Liana answered quickly, rising.

He was lashing out over the baby, but getting away from the manor was her priority. They could talk later.
After they left, Rosalind sighed. “She’s pulling away from us.”
“She truly wants the divorce. It’s all Elian’s fault, tangled up with Anya,” Linda fumed.
The drive into the city was oppressively quiet.
As they passed brightly lit storefronts, Liana spoke, “You can drop me here. I’ll get a cab.”
Elian pulled over to a quiet curb.
Liana opened her purse for her phone to call a ride.
A notification caught her eye. She opened the image Lily had sent, and her entire world froze.
Elian, seeing her motionless, irritably pulled back into traffic.
By the time the words registered, the car was already on Riverview Avenue.
Liana clutched her phone, her mind reeling. She stole glance at the man driving. Her heart hammered against her ribs.
The DNA result was in.
Elian and Theo…
No biological tie…
Elian and Theo were not father and son…
The car stopped under her apartment building, silent as a tomb.
Liana couldn’t help squeezing her phone, knuckles while. She couldn’t figure out where it went wrong.
How? Elian wasn’t naive. He wasn’t the type to be played for a fool.
Hadn’t he ever had a paternity test done?
If he believed Anya blindly, only one explanation fit-the blinding power of a “first love.”
The depth of his feelings for Anya.
He wanted her back so desperately that he chose to believe the child was his.
