Not wanting to cause Liana unnecessary trouble, he explained, “Her door alarm went off last night. I was worried, so I came to help. She didn’t call me.”
“Of course she wouldn’t.”
Elian’s voice was cold and distant, but his arms remained locked around Liana, preventing her from struggling.
Crushed against him in front of others, Liana was breath less. In a moment of inspiration, she reached down and pinched his side hard.
“Hiss.”
The sharp pain made him glare at her, but his anger dissolved in an instant, replaced by an even tighter embrace.
Her arms, exhausted from the struggle, went limp. She gave up, letting him hold her, inhaling his familiar scent of sandalwood. With the last of her strength, she gritted out. “Let me go.”
“Not a chance.”
A flicker of the stubborn, possessive boy flashed in his eyes, his voice low and unyielding.
Too angry to reason-knowing it was useless, knowing she couldn’t win a physical fight—Liana gave up. But another, unrelated thought surfaced.
She tilted her head back, her chin pressing into his chest, and looked up at him. “Was that you last night,
too?”
“If you mean around midnight, yes.”
He admitted readily, a hint of smugness in his eyes at her lazy, almost dependent posture.
“Why were you here in the middle of the night?” Liana frowned.
“Mrs. Locke, I’m your husband. Where else should I be at night?” His voice had softened.
Liana stared at him skeptically.
His act as the rightful master of the house was really annoying.
“I’m coming!” a voice suddenly shouted from inside.
All three turned to see Lily burst from the kitchen, wielding a fruit knife.
The moment he saw Lily, Elian instinctively pivoted, shielding Liana with his own body, putting himself between her and the blade.
The furious jealousy he’d felt seeing Quentin eased slightly.
So she wasn’t alone with him.

Chapter 75 Are You Jealous?
Liana’s heart stuttered at his protective move.
Was he… protecting me?
She found herself staring at his tense, guarded face, unable to look away.
Lily blinked in surprise. “Elian?”
“Yes. Thank you for protecting my wife. But please put the knife down.”
“Oh.”
Lily snapped back to reality, quickly lowering the knife and scurrying back to the kitchen.
She looked a bit like a startled chick facing a hawk.

Seeing the knife gone, Elian relaxed slightly. Looking down and finding Liana’s eyes on him, his heart softened.
“Shouldn’t the guests be leaving now?”
“I’ll head out then. Call if you need anything,” Quentin said, his gaze lingering on Liana for a brief moment.
“Yes. Thank you both for coming tonight.” Liana nodded
A sly, possessive glint flashed in Elian’s eyes. He turned lightly, as if showing off, and said to Quentin, “With me-the real husband-here, no need worry, Mr. Conrad.”
Real husband? Liana shot him a look. Enough.
A husband who did nothing when another woman gave his wife abortion pills? A husband who only blamed the wife when the baby was gone?
Someone else can have him. I’m done.
The moment he chose to blame only her and not Anya, he lost any chance of being her husband again.
Lily and Quentin soon left. The small apartment fell silent, just the two of them standing by the door.
Liana crossed her arms, staring him down. “Have you been drinking?”
“Yes.”
He was honest, taking a long stride toward her.
Her defensive posture, glaring at him, was oddly endearing. He wanted to cup her face and kiss her.
