Chapter 83 Gown Fitting
“Unless he’s grown tired of wearing his official hat,” Elian replied thoughtfully to Xander. Hearing the dressing room door open, he added, “Don’t worry. The head of Locke Media will be there that night.”
The door swung wider. First, the full, structured skirt of the gown appeared.
Elian’s breath caught. He hung up, his intense gaze fixed on the doorway.
Liana stepped out, her hair swept back with crystal clips revealing the elegant lines of her neck and her delicate, now slightly made-up face.
Her most captivating features were always her expressive eyes and long lashes.
He’d always known she was beautiful, even bare-faced.
The gown hugged her torso before flaring into a voluminous skirt that seemed to float around her. It accentuated her slender waist and gave her an ethereal, youthful aura.
It took Elian several seconds to remember to breathe, his eyes still riveted on her.
“Mr. Locke,” the stylist acknowledged him as she followed Liana out.
Elian didn’t respond, his gaze traveling slowly from the graceful curve of her neck back up to her face.
Liana held the skirt’s hem, pretending not to see him even as the stylist spoke.
Knowing her current coldness toward him, Elian didn’t approach; he simply remained a silent, watchful
presence.
The elders, seeing Liana in formal wear for the first time, were immediately charmed.
“Who would guess our Liana is a teacher? She looks like a college debutante!” Rosalind exclaimed.
“Grandma,” Liana demurred, embarrassed.
“She’s absolutely stunning. Did Elian say anything?” Linda asked, her eyes shining with pride.
“No.” Liana replied, the mention of Elian making her fel awkward.
She was sure the elders knew about her firm decision to divorce, yet they acted oblivious.
Until they explicitly opposed it, she couldn’t keep bringing it up.
As for Elian, she half-wished Anya would call and take him away,
“It’s beautiful, but perhaps not quite right for this particular event,” David offered his honest, practical opinion.
“That’s why we have a dozen more to try,” Linda reminded her.
Liana glanced at the other gowns. She walked over, selected a simple, sleek black dress, and asked Linda, “Mom, can I try this one first?”
“Of course!”

Linda took one look and agreed right away.
Taking the dress, Liana headed back to the dressing room.

“Where did you hear about the Forrests’ invitation?” David asked his wife once Liana was gone.
Linda explained, “We chatted a bit and exchanged numbers. He called me the moment Helena showed up at the school.”
“Helena doesn’t fight fair,” Rosalind said, her tone turning grave.
“My thoughts exactly. That’s why I insisted Elian go with her. Surprisingly, he agreed without a fight,” Linda added.
“Not fast enough-his wife doesn’t want him anymore,” Earl grumbled.
“Should someone go help her?” David asked, noting the staff were just standing by.
“Your son is right there. What more does she need?” Linda murmured, glancing toward the dressing area.
The entire family’s attention drifted in that direction.
Approaching the room, Liana saw Elian still standing there. She took a steadying breath, opened the door, slipped inside, and closed it.
Elian, leaning against the window frame, heard the distinct click of the lock. A wry smile touched his lips as he saw the key in the keyhole.
Is she keeping me out… or playing hard to get?
If I go in right now…
He was still thinking when Liana cracked the door and suck her head out. “Could you… send one of the assistants in?”
“Hmm?” Elian’s eyes narrowed.
“The zipper’s stuck.” Her voice was low with embarrassment.
The fabric had snagged halfway up.
