Sinclair POV
It’s not quite noon yet. I have had many conversations with Aric. He has told me how he has grown up. He talked about the sports he played and the hobbies he has. Then we both decided to let our wolves out to go for a run.
I shifted into Mali, and Aric shifted into his wolf, Val. Both of them sprinted past the trees and to the nearby lake. They jumped into the water and played. They had a great time. We came back to our clothes and shifted. We got dressed, and Aric noticed a very light scar on my stomach. His eyes furrowed.
“What happened there?”
I looked down. “Oh, this? Yeah, my foster sister, Candy, stabbed me here. Didn’t see it coming at all. Isaiah rushed me to the hospital.”
He came up to me and traced the faint scar with his finger. “Tell me about your life in the human world.”
I sighed. Then I explained my childhood. I explained all three foster families. He zeroed in on my life with Conrad, Chad, and Candy. That’s probably because Candy stabbed me. His eyes darkened and then filled with unshed tears.
“I never knew about you, Sinclair. If I had known, I would have torn the world down looking for you. You suffered so much, and I’m so sorry.”
He pulled me in for a hug. Not an intimate hug between lovers, but a warm, enveloping hug that feels like the love of family. For the first time in my life, I felt what it could be like to have a family. It may not be a big family. It may just be Aric and me, but it’s still a family. I suddenly want the DNA test to say we are siblings.
When we pulled back, I noticed his shirt was wet. I unconsciously started crying. The warmth and care I just experienced were so deep and felt so personal that I started crying. Aric looks at me with curiosity.
I cleared my throat, “Uh, you give great hugs.”
He chuckled, “Whenever you want one, I’m here to give one.”
We continued walking around the pack borders, inspecting them and identifying areas for improvement. I kept pulling out my phone to make voice notes to dictate later and give to Isaiah whenever he peels himself away from Kaia.
“You’re really good at security, huh?”
I smirked, “My specialty as a hitman was security and IT. I can break through firewalls, kill viruses and malware. I can also deploy them. I have my own homegrown viruses. I’ve used it a couple of times to help Rodrigo and Blackstone.”
“Who’s Rodrigo?”
“Thalia’s brother. She is Luna of Blackstone. Aiden’s mate.”
“Yeah, she was a hitman too?”
“Yeah, a traditional one. Total femme fatale. You should see her with her knives. Completely lethal."
“What was Kaia’s specialty?” He asked.
“Kaia was the best at finding information. She could gather intel easily,” I said, smiling. “Between Thalia, Kaia, and me, we were a complete package,” I said.
“Did you learn to fight from Thalia?” Aric asked curiously.
