Rebel POV
I feel bad for Adrian. I know my son is a good mate to Amber. I honestly don’t know what is going on with her. I have never tried to pry into any of my kids’ relationships. I always keep my distance.
This is different though. Adrian is hurting, and I know Amber is hurting. For whatever reason, they can’t seem to get back to having a healthy relationship. As a mother, I’m concerned. So, when Adrian asked me to talk to her, I know their relationship must be very strained now.
Adrian left to train the warriors, since Aric and Sinclair are going to review the pack's perimeters, and she can record her observations. I believe that after that, they will get the results of the DNA test. I hope they are siblings. Both of them look lonely.
I understand being lonely. Before Austin, I had people around me, but I was ignored and treated like a slave. I led a lonely existence, only to be rejected by my first mate when we met. That was a long time ago, though. Everything turned out so much better after Austin found me. That first year was the roughest, but after that, our life has been beautiful. Sometimes, you have to go through hell to find heaven. Maybe that is what needs to happen with Adrian and Amber. Only the Moon Goddess knows.
I see Amber come to the dining hall for breakfast. I waved her down, and I asked Austin to let me have some time alone with Amber.
“Anything for you, darlin’,” he said as he kissed me and then got up to leave.
“Hey, Mom,” Amber said with a sad smile.
“Hello, my dear. How are you this morning?”
“Fine,” she said quietly.
“Lie.”
She snapped her eyes up to mine. Her face blushed with embarrassment. “I’ve had better mornings.”
‘Rebel, something is going on with Amber. Ask tough questions. I need to see something,’ Roxie said, making me curious.
“Adrian said you both got into a fight. What happened?”
“It’s not something I want to talk about, Mom.”
“Why not?”
“It’s a private matter between Adrian and me.”
‘She isn’t actually answering the questions, Rebs. She knows we are going to call her out and she is fighting against it.’
“Amber, everyone can see that you and Adrian have been having problems. I’m concerned for you both. You know that, right?”
“Yes, I know, Mom.”
“Truth.”
“Did Adrian do something to you? Do I need to remind him about the importance of treating his mate right?”
“Adrian didn’t do anything, Mom,” she sighed.
“Truth.”
“Then you are the problem?”
“Yes. I think everyone knows that, too.”
“Truth.”
“You know Adrian is trying to fix the relationship.”
“There’s nothing to fix.”
“Half-truth”
