His Plump Mate (by Buchanan) novel Chapter 104

Chapter 104

Austin POV

While Reid and Adele keep Rebel company, I decide to talk to Elias. I mind link Renz and Jessup to join us as I need my leadership team and the councilman on the same page before we move forward. I think Rebel is right, we need to tighten our security and our systems. This should not have happened and yet it did and now we are exposed. I’m not sure if Kaden will be the immediate threat or Cullen, but I need for Elias to address both with the rest of the council.

Once everyone is gathered, Dr. Hadley offers us a conference room right down the hall from Rebel’s room. I don’t want to be far from her. The room looks sterile. The table is very modern with straight lines and the chairs are modern but plush. It’s comfortable to say the least.

As we are taking our seats, there is a knock on the door. Reid enters the room and says he wants to be involved with the conversation. I will not deny him as he is aligning his pack with ours to help eliminate the threats to my mate. For that, I welcome him wholeheartedly.

I begin addressing the security first. “Renz, Jessup, I need a thorough sweep of everything that happened last night. I want to understand why the alarm didn’t go off and alert the guards that were here and how our systems were hacked to begin with. I need a report yesterday.”

Jessup spoke up, “When I heard about the bypass I started investigating it immediately. Apparently, they tapped the wire line that interrupted any signals alerting the alarms. I brought in a couple of our tech guys to put in a tamper trigger. I’m not sure why it wasn’t put in before, but it is now.”

“Good work, Jessup. Is our medical system of record at risk? Has there been any breaches?” I ask.”

“That’s a little more complex and we are still investigating. I’m hoping to have something by tomorrow and see what kind of proxies we need to put in place to protect our networks.” Jessup answers.

“Okay, keep me updated.” I turn to Renz, “How was this guy able to get past our patrols without detection?”

“I think he got in during patrol shift so the other warriors could come enjoy the celebration. However, I went to do an inspection of the borders and found a pathway that was, for lack of better words, paved through. I have the warriors reinforces our borders and I have also reviewed the gaps in our patrols and made changes accordingly, Alpha.”

“Very good. What reinforcements are you adding?”

“We are adding stakes at every foot. No one will be able to climb over. We are reinforcing those with barb wire woven through the stakes. There is also a wireless signal being added at each entry point. If anyone tries to cut through the wiring, it will trigger an alarm and the flood lights we are installing inside the borders will light up.”

“I

“Excellent work, Renz.” I say

I’m glad I didn’t need to give orders for them to take the initiative and address the weak spots in the pack’s security. This is why I chose them as rank members. Renz might be a childhood friend, but he has always been capable as well as Jessup. I put my trust in both of them, to step up when I can’t. Today is one of those days.

I turn to Reid, “How was Rebel when you left her room?”

“We had a long conversation. One I would like to have with you in private afterwards, Austin. Adele is staying

with Rebel while she rests. She was tired. I think it was from the work Roxie was doing to heal her quickly.” He responded.

“Okay. After this meeting, if you would like to accompany me back to Rebel’s room, we can talk there while she is resting. I don’t want to be gone from my mate much longer.” I say.

“Understood.”

My focus then goes to Elias. “Councilman, have you had a chance to review everything?”

“Yes. I have to admit, I am disturbed about everything that is found. Have you spoken further with Dr. Hadley? It looked like that was a pending conversation?” He asked me.

“Honestly, I haven’t. With so much going on, I had planned to do it today after the visit, and you see what we walked into. If she made a note to have further discussions with me, then it must be important. I will not let it go past today.” I answered.

“See that you do. I have questions regarding what she is talking about. I think the sooner you talk to her the better.” He stated and he seemed really angry with that point, “That being said, I have enough to open a case against Harris. However, in light of today’s events, I also want to talk to the council about Alpha Kaden, Blue Moon, the breach of medical records and what you have discovered. You’ve already provided me with your information, but I am going to write and inquiry to the Central Council which oversees all four regions. I may need them to intervene as the Southwestern region cannot override the Northeastern region. Are you okay with me taking it that far?”

“Yes, please do. When do you plan to have these conversations and open the case against Harris?” I ask.

“I will be making calls as soon as we are done here. If your Luna is right, we don’t have much time. I will start with the Central Council. I will file an emergency petition to have Alpha Kaden investigated. I will be providing them with all of the information you gave me and what I witnessed myself today. It should be more than enough for them to take action. I will let you know of the outcome.” Elias said.

“Councilman, thank you. This will mean the world to my mate, and I am grateful that you are helping us.” I look at everyone in the room, “Okay, I think we are in a good place. If you will excuse me gentlemen, I am going to find Dr. Hadley and have that longer discussion with her. Reid, would you like to join me?”

“Yes. Let’s see what else is going on with my granddaughter.”

As we all leave the room, I go in search of Dr. Hadley. When I find her, I ask her to explain what else she found to me and Reid.

“Alpha, when I reviewed everything in Rebel’s bloodwork, I didn’t find any indication of Beta blood. I question the paternity of Harris Lawson.” She says.

Reid interrupted before I could say anything. “Harris was an Alpha. Why would he have Beta blood?”

Both Dr. Hadley and I looked at Reid. “Are you sure? Rebel has always said that Harris was the former Beta of Ironclaw.”

“Harris was an Alpha. His brother was a Beta. I’m quite sure. Sydney was involved with Harris when she was alive. I’m telling you he was an Alpha.”
