Chapter 121

Austin kept holding me when kissing the top of my head and cooing me. When I stopped, I pulled away. The room still a little too bright, but I look at my mate. He looks exhausted. His facial hair has grown out to a thick stubble, his hair looks disheveled, and his clothes don’t look fresh. He has dark circles under his eyes. His crystal blue eyes look just as tired as he does.

“When was the last time you slept, baby?” I ask him.

“I’ve been sleeping off and on, darling. Don’t worry. You’re the one in the hospital bed. You scared me so much when you didn’t wake up in that cave.”

“How long have I been out?” I ask.

“Three days.” He said quietly.

“THREE DAYS?” I’m shocked. No wonder my mate looks exhausted.

“I’ve mind linked Dr. Hadley. She’ll want to talk to both of us.” He says.

As if summoning a ghost, as soon as Austin finished talking, Dr. Hadley appears. “Hello Luna. Welcome back. How are you feeling?”

I hadn’t even taken the time to catalogue my injuries. I start concentrating on how my body feels. “Stiff…sore. My head and side hurt mainly and I am feeling gross.” I said.

“Gross as in nauseous?” She asks.

“Yeah. My stomach feels like it’s churning.” I say.

She smiles knowingly at Austin. What’s that about?

“Let’s get you some broth and crackers to help settle your stomach. In the meantime, let me check over your injuries. Have you heard from your wolf?” She asked me.

“Yeah,

she woke me up. Told me I needed to wake up. But hasn’t said anything since.”

“That makes sense. You sustained some serious injuries, Luna. Your wolf is probably tired from the over exertion.” Dr. Hadley stated, “You are not well enough to leave yet though. Once you get back to the pack house, you will be on bed rest for some time.”

Her tone makes me feel like she isn’t telling me something and I look at Austin. There is so much love in his

eyes,

that it seems like his exhaustion has evaporated.

Just then, a tray with broth and crackers are brought in. “Sip the broth slowly and eat the crackers slowly. Once you have eaten, I will come in and check on you again and then we will have a longer conversation about your injuries and condition.”

“Condition?” I say and look between Austin and Dr. Hadley.

“You heard the doctor, darling. Let me help you with the broth.” He says.

“Babe, why don’t you go get freshened up and get some rest. You look so tired, don’t you think Dr. Hadley?”

“Alpha, you should listen to your Luna. Go get a fresh change of clothes and some rest. It will do you good.”

“I’ll rest here. Renz will bring me a change of clothes and I will freshen up here doctor. I’m not leaving Rebel’s side.” Austin’s tone is authoritative and leaving no room for argument.

“Very well. I will have a cot brought in for you. I’m ordering at least two hours of sleep before any further conversations take place Alpha Austin.” She smiles knowingly again. Seriously, what is going on?

Austin presses his lips together in a thin line and nods curtly. “Fine.”

The doctor leaves and Austin continues to help me eat the broth and I’m slowly eating the crackers. It’s helping with the nausea and I have a pressing need to use the bathroom. I press the call button for the nurses and Austin looks at me almost offended. “Is there something you need, mate? I’m right here.”

“Yes, you are my love. But you are also exhausted.” I say as the nurse walks in.

“Luna?” She asks.

“Yes, I would like to use the bathroom. Can you please help me?” I said.

“Oh, sure. Let me get these machines unhooked for you. Then I’m sure Alpha can help you into the bathroom.” She says cheerfully and nervously at the same time.

As soon as the nurse unhooks the last line, Austin picks me up and carries me to the bathroom. As he steps out, I finally feel relief and as soon as I finish and flush the toilet, I weakly stand to wash my hands.

Austin walks back in and his eyes panic. “Rebel, you shouldn’t be on your feet!”
