Chapter 211
Her face is turning purple, and she points down the hall. “I don’t know what your issue is, but make no mistake, you have just made your own life very difficult.”
I dropped her, and mind linked Jessup. ‘Jessup, I need you to contact Stefan and have him meet me on the sixth floor please.’
‘Sure. What’s up, Luna?”
“The nurse at the front of the ICU ward didn’t want me to go in to see Austin. Something about her presence is making me suspicious. She lied about letting me see Austin. I want her investigated. If she is a threat to my mate, I want her gone.’
‘Understood. I’ll call him right now.’ He said, and I cut off the mind link.
As I enter bay six, I see him. Austin. He looks frail. I pull up a chair and sit beside him. I grabbed his hand.” Austin, it’s me. I’m here.”
Another nurse is passing by the door, “Excuse me, nurse!” I called out to the nurse.
This one enters and is much friendlier, “Yes, ma’am?”
“Has the doctor already seen my mate? Could I speak with the doctor?”
She looks at Austin’s chart. “Right, Dr. Moreno. Let me go get him.” She leaves the room to fetch the doctor.
Meanwhile, Jessup mind links me, ‘Stefan will be here in fifteen minutes, Luna.’
“Thanks, Jessup.’
I hear a knock at the door, “Mrs. Willis?”
I turn around and there is a tall, tan, broad shouldered, muscular man with curly black hair and dark brown eyes. He looks exotic. He is wearing a doctor’s jacket and glasses, and his badge around his neck tells me he is the
doctor.
“Dr. Moreno, nice to meet you. Could you please tell me about my mate?” I ask, while shaking his hand.
“Well, the silver did absorb into his skin. It left burn marks on him. Those will all heal. The burns on his hands could have been worse, but it doesn’t look like he had prolonged contact with silver in his hands. However, when we swabbed the silver, we ran tests and found it was highly concentrated. So, even though he only has a few spots on his skin, it was enough to weaken him considerably.”
“Is that why he is in ICU? I thought ICU was for critical patients.”
“It is for critical patients. He is critical. When I say weaken him considerably, I mean, his vitals are weak. We need to keep him in ICU for the next twenty-four hours. My biggest concern is respiratory issues. Some of the burns are on his chest and easily absorbed, making its way to his lungs. You being here will help him immensely. Your wolf can help him fight off the silver poisoning. Please feel free to stay as long as necessary.”.
“Thank you, Dr. Moreno.” Then I mention the nurse, “Could you please make sure your nurse at the window knows that? She was refusing me entry, when clearly, I need to be here. Also, councilman Stefan will be here

shortly. Could you please have him come to the room? I’m not leaving my mate.”
“The nurse at the window?” He asked curiously.
“Yes, she has blondish-brown hair and blue eyes. The nurse’s uniform fit her a little too tight and her complexion was pale. She also had a slight accent, like she is not from around here.”
Dr. Moreno’s eyes darkened to almost black. I’m not sure if I just got that nurse fired and honestly, I couldn’t care less. “Mrs. Willis, thank you for letting me know. I will handle it personally. I will also make sure there is another nurse at the window to let the councilman in when he arrives.”
“Thank you, doctor.” Something seems to be off about him. I’m not sure what, but by all accounts, you wouldn’t look at him and think ‘DOCTOR’. He looks much too intimidating to be a doctor, yet his badge clearly stated his name, and the second nurse confirmed he was the attending.
