Chapter 216
Rebel POV
I whipped my head around and burst into tears. “AUSTIN!” I said loudly as I rushed over to him. I grabbed his face and kissed his lips and put my forehead on his, inhaling his scent.
“Don’t you ever try to leave me again; do you understand me?” I said.
“I promise I wasn’t trying to leave this time, darling.” He croaked out.
“Let me get you some water, my love.” I say, and pour some water into the water jug the nurses had brought in. There is already a straw in it, and I bring it to his lips. “Slowly, my love.”
I look over at my grandparents, and they are looking at both of us with love in their eyes. They know how truly desperate I was for Austin to recover. “Let me get a nurse. Reid, stay here.” My grandmother said, locking the wheelchair in place.
“Woman! Don’t lock this wheelchair.” Grandpa called out. Now my grandpa looks exasperated. “That’s your DNA, Rebel.” He grumbled sarcastically.
I laugh and so does Austin. “Reid, why are you in a wheelchair?”
Reid looks at me to explain it. “Morgana tried to attack me with a shiv, Austin. I was so focused on you passing out on the gurney and getting into the ambulance, that I didn’t react quickly enough. Grandpa shifted and jumped in front of me, taking the blow of the shiv on his side. It punctured his lung, and he was bleeding pretty badly. Everyone had been close to the silver, and everyone was weakened to some degree. So, after the ambulance took you away, another one arrived for grandpa and brought him here too for surgery.”
Austin growls lowly. “Tell me Morgana isn’t still running around free.”
“No, baby. She is in the deepest and darkest part of the dungeon at the central council. Stefan said she is going to die there. It’s over.”
“I want to go there and see her myself. I want to see her behind the cells and locked up in iron. I want to know she can’t get to our family ever again.” He tells me adamantly.
Just then, Dr. Moreno walks in, “First, Alpha Willis; you are not going anywhere. Not while you are still recovering. Second, how are you feeling?”
He looks at Dr. Moreno and then looks at me, “Who the hell is this guy?”
“Austin Willis, behave yourself. This is Dr. Moreno. I don’t think you understand how dire your situation was, and it was Dr. Moreno who quite literally brought you back to Rebel. You will do what the good doctor says or so help me, I will tell Rebel to let you sleep outside for an entire month when you are recovered!
My grandpa is laughing and Dr. Moreno smirks. I speak up, “Austin, you nearly died. I haven’t left your side even for a moment hoping my wolf could give you enough strength to help you heal. Dr. Moreno stayed up all night to create a serum just for you to heal faster, and it worked. The liquid silver was highly concentrated and heading to your lungs like shrapnel.” I told him, with tears threatening to spill again.
Austin looks around and then to Dr. Moreno, “Shrapnel?”

“Yes, Alpha. I just got back from a yearlong sabbatical a couple of weeks ago. I had been working on a cure for silver poisoning during my time away. I adjusted my findings using your tests and came up with a serum. We applied it a few hours ago. But you have been in the hospital since yesterday. Trust me when I say, that without that serum, you would not be awake right now and you would be here in ICU much longer.” He said calmly. “So, now for my second question, how are you feeling?”
He is reading charts and monitors and Austin answers, “Groggy and weak mainly.”
“Okay, I’m going to listen to your lungs. Take a deep breath for me.” He said holding a stethoscope to his chest. But when Austin takes a deep breath, he starts coughing violently. I hold the water and help him drink.
