Austin POV

Rebel told me to come to the hospital if I was finished with Renz. She said she finished speaking to Dr. Hadley and because of recent events in the central council, the doctor wanted to run bloodwork and do another ultrasound to check the health of our pup.

That made me excited. I love seeing our pups when they are growing inside my mate. I was wrapping up with Renz, so I told him that whatever he needs to secure and reinforce the mine, that he has full authority to order the supplies and we will get it done. I left to see my mate. She has already had her blood drawn, and Dr. Hadley is hooking up the heart monitor and prepping her for the ultrasound. I noticed her hair is down. I don’t think in the fifteen years I have known the doctor, I have ever once seen her with her hair down. It’s different.

“Hello Alpha! Just in time.” She said cheerfully.

“I wouldn’t miss seeing our pup.” I said smiling at Rebel. She looks excited to see our pup too.

Once we hear the heartbeat, we both smile from ear to ear. It sounds steady and solid. Our pup is perfect, no matter what. Then Dr. Hadley turns on the ultrasound machine and starts searching for our pup.

“There’s your pup. Are you sure you don’t want to know the gender?” She asks.

“No. We are good. We want to be surprised this time.” Rebel said.

Honestly, I am dying to know if we are having a girl this time. I am not going to ruin it for Rebel though.

“Okay, well if you change your mind, let me know.” She said, smiling.

After the bloodwork came out normal, Dr. Hadley prescribed some more nausea medication just in case and then Rebel and I left for the pack house.

“Dr. Hadley looked different today. Her behavior was happier, and her hair was down.” I said.

“We need to talk about Dr. Hadley.”

“What about her?” I questioned.

“After I give birth and get through post-partum, she will be leaving us. That’s what she wanted to talk to me about.”

“Why didn’t she come to me? I’m her Alpha. Doesn’t she trust me?” I said, slightly offended.

Rebel chuckled, “It’s not that Austin. She wants to talk to you too but didn’t want to go into detail. I told her I would talk to you first. Did you know that Dr. Higslee was wolf-less?”

“No. I didn’t sense he was wolf-less.”

“Dr. Hadley and Dr. Higslee grew up together. They were crazy about each other. Dr. Hadley is a couple of months older than him. She shifted first and didn’t find her mate. Everyone just knew that the two of them were fated mates, so when he was about to turn eighteen, everyone anticipated him being mated to Dr. Hadley. But he didn’t shift. They felt like they were but didn’t know for sure.”

“I never knew any of this story about Dr. Hadley. Is that why she remained unmated?”

“Okay, I will get with Dr. Hadley and Renz to get everything posted tomorrow. Why don’t you work with mom about organizing the farewell party when the time comes?”

“Yeah, I’m doing a cookout for her and Dr. Higslee.” She said, smiling.

I hug her, and then whisper in her ear, how about we have our own party in the shower.

I see her eyes darken and her scent spike with her arousal, “Well, my alpha, I better see fireworks.”

I growl and scoop her up, “Anything for you, darling.”

I was awakened by a phone call. I see the number and groan.
