Chapter 228
Rebel POV
It’s been two months. I have one month left before I give birth to our third pup. I’m still searching for a doctor. Dr. Hadley has reviewed several applications to check qualifications and hasn’t found one applicant that she liked. Austin said that he got a few new ones and that there was one in particular I would find interesting. I told him I would meet him in his office in a few minutes.
“Sophia, are you okay with the boys for a few minutes?”
“Of course, Luna.”
Sophia has been a Goddess send. Mary just went on maternity leave. She had a beautiful little girl. Michael and she couldn’t be more in love with their new pup. Her name is Ashley. She is so adorable.
When Sophia got here, she was a quick study and learned everything so fast that by the end of the week, she had already gotten the hang of things and didn’t need any more help. Now that Mary is on leave, I’m making sure to be available for Sophia, just in case.
As I walk into Austin’s office, he looks up and growls at me. My stomach is large and he has been saying I have girl energy during this pregnancy. He is absolutely certain I’m having a girl. He keeps talking to my belly by name. He keeps saying, “How’s daddy’s little girl?” or “Rory, you love me more, right?” I have to laugh each time because he is so in love and truly believes I’m having a girl.
“How’s my mate and daughter?” He says walking over to me to give me a kiss.
“Our pup is fine, my love.” I said, “what did you want to show me?”
He hands me a resume, “Look who applied for the position.”
I take the resume and look at the name. ‘Raul Moreno, MD, MS, FAAEM’
I look at Austin, “Is this the same Dr. Moreno? He holds titles and is in the Emergency Medicine Fellowship?”
“The same one. Should we talk to Dr. Hadley about him?”
“Yes! We owe him, too. He saved your life, Austin.”
“Okay, let’s go talk to her.’
As we walk to the pack hospital, we pass several pack members and say our hellos and apparently there is a pool for which I actually give birth. I laughed when Austin said he got in on the pool.
When we get to the hospital, we see Dr. Hadley and Dr. Higslee, going over some documents. I will say, they don’t let their relationship interfere with their work. It’s almost like that is the glue that keeps the romance alive for them. It’s funny what makes a relationship stick.
Dr. Hadley looks up, “Alpha, Luna, what brings you here today? Are you feeling, okay?”
“Yes, Dr. Hadley, we would like to talk to you about an applicant. I think you will find this one interesting.”
“Okay, let’s head to my office. Do you mind if Dr. Higslee joins us?”

Austin answers, “By all means.”

When we get to the office, we all take a seat. Dr. Hadley and Dr. Higslee look at each other with adoration before facing us. “So, who is this applicant?”
“His name is Dr. Raul Moreno. He’s currently working in the central council region.” I said.
Dr. Higslee responds first, “I didn’t know Raul applied. He would be an excellent choice, Clara.”
“You know him, Steven?”
“Yes. We worked together in the past. He is exceptional. We collaborated on medication to help with latency issues for those with a wolf but are physically unable to shift. He was quite brilliant. He could be an asset here.”
Then I added additional information for Dr. Hadley, “Also, when Austin and I were in the central council, he saved Austin’s life. When Morgana splashed the concentrated silver on Austin, it was like shrapnel heading to his lungs. Dr. Moreno stayed up all night to create a serum that dissolved the silver and Austin recovered within twenty-four hours.”
Both doctors in front of me look at me with their eyes wide. “He created a serum overnight to dissolve silver in the body?”
“Yes.” I looked at them strangely. Apparently, this is an extraordinary feat?
“I absolutely want to meet him, Luna. If he can create that kind of medicine overnight, then there are a couple of things that come to mind. First, he will be exceptional at treating the pack and two, if he patents these medicines, it could bring additional income into the pack.”
“Raul, doesn’t strike me as the type that wants the pack life. He didn’t grow up in a pack if I remember correctly.” Dr. Higslee said, “Why would he want to come into this kind of structure?”
Well, that’s news. He didn’t grow up in a pack. I feel like he and I have a lot in common and that will make for a good doctor and patient relationship. “I’m not sure about any of your questions. Why don’t we call him and have him come in?”
Dr. Hadley dials the number on the application and after three rings there is a groggy answer, “Raul Moreno.”
“Dr. Moreno, my name is Dr. Hadley. I’m calling about your applications for the chief medical director position here at Blackstone. How are you today?”
“Dr. Hadley, it’s a pleasure to receive your call. I’m well. On call at the hospital. I was getting some rest, while things are slow.”
Dr. Hadley smiles like she is remembering doing the same things earlier in her career. “I understand completely. Is now a good time to talk?”
“Yes. By all means.” He responds.
Dr. Higslee then speaks, “Raul, it’s Steven Higslee. It’s been a while.”
“Steven, well this is a pleasant surprise. How are you? What are you doing in Blackstone?”
“Dr. Hadley is my mate,” He says proudly, “We received your resume, and the Alpha and Luna speak highly of
