Chapter 244

I’ve never had to explain my heritage in such detail before. In fairness though, I don’t think he has ever had to explain wolf culture in such detail either. I learned so much last night. We are fated mates by the Moon Goddess and we can only scent each other if we have our wolves. Since he was able to scent me, I have a wolf. That was the first revelation. Then he started explaining pack life to me. He is the best teacher. Really patient and detailed. He told me about the hierarchy and everyone’s roles. It was more detailed than my mother was able to provide me with previously. Then he told me I would be his Luna by default. I didn’t understand what it meant to be a Luna and when he told me, I thought my soul would leave my body.
“So, you are like the King, and I am like the Queen?” It may not be the best analogy, but it was the only comparison I could come up with right now.
“Something like that, but we are not royalty. We have a government as well. We call it a council. Each region has one.” He looks at me carefully, waiting for my next question.
I don’t have a question, but I do have a comment. “I don’t know the first thing about being a Luna.”
“It’s not as hard as you think. What my father did with my mother was play on her strengths. She naturally fell in step with the role because she wasn’t put into some kind of bullshit ‘Luna standard’. My pack still loves her.”
“Are your parents fated mates?”
“Yes. When I was younger, I was grossed out about my parents always being so in love.” He said, “But as I got older, I saw and learned how to treat a mate because of my father. He’s an excellent father to me and my siblings.”
“How many siblings do you have?” I asked.
“I’m the oldest of five.” He said, “There’s me and my twin, Reid. Then my kid sister, Rory, even though we are only eight months older than her, then the youngest is Adrian and Isaiah, they are also twins.”
“You are only eight months older than your sister?”
“Yeah. According to my parents, they didn’t expect to get pregnant so quickly again. According to Uncle Renz, everyone in the pack thought differently. They were all over each other back then. Worse than now apparently. I’m glad I don’t remember any of it, or they might be paying for my therapy sessions.” He chuckled.
I laughed. “It sounds like your dad really wanted sons.”
“My dad loves all his kids, but Rory is the apple of his eyes. I think he probably would have liked another daughter, if I’m being honest. You should have seen him when Rory realized Jonah was her mate. It’s the only time I ever saw him cry. He didn’t want to see his little girl grow up and make her life.” He smiled at the memory.
I smiled, but I know it’s not reaching my eyes. My father never treated Mia or me that way. We were always being exploited. Aiden is really lucky he has loving parents.
“Hey, what’s going through that gorgeous head of yours?” He asks.
“You’re lucky to have such a loving family with loving parents. Not all of us are that lucky.” I said.
“Is it just you and Mia?”

“No, I have a younger brother, Rodrigo. He is the heir of the family, even though I’m the oldest.”
“Do you and your siblings not get along?” He asked curiously.
“Mia and I get along. Rodrigo is very much influenced by my father and well, you see how he is trying to force a marriage alliance on me.”
“What’s the deal with the alliance? Why is he so desperate to marry you off to that asshole?”
“He looks at his daughters like commodities to strengthen the family business.” I said.
He growls softly, “Commodities? What’s the family business?”
I sighed. He should know, because this could all be dangerous for him. “I’m the princess of the Moreno Crime Family, Aiden.”
“Crime family? Like the mafia?” He said, amused.
