“I heard Aiden is back, Tina.” My mother said.

“Really? Okay, I will go visit him tomorrow after breakfast.” I said smiling.

I have been trying my hardest to get Aiden to accept me for the last year. I wear all the right things, I stay compliant, I carry myself with sophistication. Just like my mother taught me. I am educated and talented. I treat everyone respectfully.

My mother knows my dream of becoming Luna of a powerful pack. When we heard about Aiden not having found his mate six years ago, we decided to move here. I nod and make my way to my room. I walk over to my vanity and start taking off my hair clips and wiping the makeup from my face. The next morning, as planned, I go to visit Aiden. I knocked on the door and walked in when Aiden said ‘come in.’

“What do you need, Tina?” He said abruptly.

“I heard that things may not have gone well for you over the weekend. I was wondering if there was anything I could do to help cheer you up.”

“If I think of anything, I will let you know. I’m very busy at the moment. If you don’t mind, please close the door behind you on your way out.” He said.

He has never been this cold to me. I try testing the waters, “Perhaps when you are done with work, we could have dinner together tonight.”

“No, thank you.” He said quickly.

Just as I was about to try to persuade him, his brother Reid, comes in. “Hey bro, oh, am I interrupting?”

“Nope. Tina was just leaving.” Aiden said and he didn’t even look up or say goodbye.

I left quietly and stood by the door after it closed.
