His Plump Mate (by Buchanan) novel Chapter 322

Chapter 322

Raul POV

Thalia finally has her wolf. Nyx is unlike any wolf I’ve ever met. She speaks, she’s larger than an Alpha, and she is solid black. My eyes still went dark from the scar on her underbelly that matches Thalia’s on her stomach.

Thalia said that the gash was done with silver, which means my idiot brother owed loan sharks that were wolves themselves. My niece paid a terrible price for Diego’s poor decisions Since the injuries were done with silver, Nyx can’t heal her. Although, everything else is healed.

I would like to get with Thalia for more testing. Maybe now that she has shifted, her body composition may have changed. Perhaps her chances of carrying a pup are greater now. I know she is worried about it. She confessed it to me in my office before Aiden marked her. I have been in discussions with Dr. Higslee. We both seem to think that because Thalia’s wolf is special that maybe she has better odds now.

I cleared it with Aiden, but Dr. Higslee will be coming to the pack the day after tomorrow. I have already gotten a place for him set up for him at the pack house. I don’t know if he is bringing Dr. Hadley, but I’m prepared to have both Steve and Clara here and maybe we can find a solution.

Mia has been with me a lot lately. After school, she works in the hospital. I gave her a small job of organizing the medical charts and prepping them for scanning into our systems. She reads over every file and always has questions later for me during dinner. She has a very good keen sense of the medical world. She confessed she wanted to study in Dr. Higslee pack because of their well-known reputation in the wolf world for medical breakthroughs. It makes me proud to know that I won’t be the only doctor in the family.

Bringing Thalia and Mia here was clearly the best decision I have made. They are both thriving now. Thalia is finally stepping into her role by Aiden’s side and Mia is absorbing the medical world like it’s her oyster. These two are going to gain recognition very quickly if they continue the path they are on.

Damn shame my brother couldn’t see how remarkable his daughters are. Maybe then, he wouldn’t have done the things he has done. I always knew that Diego wasn’t a good man. It hurt a lot to hear that he hurts Blanca. She has never called me to ask for help either. The only time she asked was for her daughters. I haven’t heard from her since, but I hope she is doing okay.

I purposely stayed away from Diego and Blanca all these years because I could sense that Diego was jealous of my relationship with Blanca. It was misplaced, but I didn’t want to create doubt in their marriage. Blanca at best was a sister to me. At worst, a friend. We never crossed any inappropriate lines. I was still mourning the loss of my first mate, and I believe in the fated mate bond. When I met Sophie, I knew the Moon Goddess saw my loneliness and blessed me with my mate, who ended up also being the mother of my own children and I love her more

than words can describe.

The only one of Diego’s kids I don’t really know now is Rodrigo. From what Mia has told me; he is as bad as Diego. She said that Thalia and him are like oil and vinegar, although neither Mia nor Thalia have ever understood why. I also learned that Rodrigo killed his own wolf. I could help with getting his wolf back, but I won’t if he is like Diego. I wouldn’t want to do that to the rest of the world..

“Excuse me, Dr. Moreno?” I hear, as my door is cracked open slightly.

“Yes, come in.” I said.

Canary and Sin are at my doorway. Those two are a pair. Thick as thieves from what I’ve se They also helped Thalia and Mia escape, so I consider them family friends now.

“What can I do for you ladies?” I asked.

“Well, um, we are still thinking about turning, but we wanted to ask about risks and stuff th is, I guess, medical. We figured you would be the right person to ask.” Sin said.

I smile at both of them, “First, I’m glad you both are not taking this decision lightly. There are a lot of things to consider and medically, there would be changes to your body makeup and DNA.” I said.

“Could you tell us about those changes?” Canary asked.

“Certainly, first, your DNA will change because there will be wolf DNA embedded in your current genome. Second, senses will be heightened. Some wolves have special gifts and until you turn, we wouldn’t know if the Moon Goddess will bestow one to either or both of you.”

“So wolves believe in a Moon Goddess but not God?” Canary asked.

“That’s more of a theological question. What I will say, is that each species believes in a different God, but none are incorrect. Wolves believe in Serena, the Moon Goddess; humans believe in God; bear shifters believe in Veles; and so on.”

“Bear shifters?” Sin asked.

“Oh, yes. We are not the only shifters. Others exist.” I said. “But, if we are talking medical, then we should stick to the topic at hand. I’m not as well versed in theology.”

“Right. What about the first shift? It lasted a few minutes for Mia. Will it be like that for us?” Sin asked and I can tell that is what makes her nervous.

“Turning is different from shifting. It isn’t pleasant and I have witnessed it twice in my life. Both times, it was the same. It will hurt. The first shift doesn’t require a change to the DNA or other anatomical changes. A person born a wolf already has those things. I cannot sugar coat that for you. I can, however, be there and ease some of the pain with sedation. Towards the end though, there won’t be anything I can do.” I said, “If you like, I can run tests on both of you and make sure you are healthy enough to go through the transition process.”

“Did the people you witness turn, survive?” Sin asked.

“Yes. Both survived. One was blessed with certain gifts. The other was born with a natural beta rank. Both individuals became great contributors to wolf society too.” I said.
