His plump mate (Rebel and Austin) by Buchanan novel Chapter 581

Adrian POV

After Sinclair left the table, everyone else looked at me. Mom seemed a little less upset. Dad simply gave me a short nod. Thalia and Rory are clearly still not happy with me. Jonah gave me a short nod, and Aiden gave me a slight smirk.

I know I’m on everyone’s shit list right now. Today, I’m trying to do better. It’s just not easy for me.

“That was better, Adrian,” Aiden said. “Not enough, but better.”

I sighed. “I really wasn’t aware she didn’t eat. I feel bad about it.”

“Is that all?” Thalia asked.

“I’m taking things slow, everyone. I know you all want me to jump in and get started, but my situation with Sinclair is not the same as it was for all of you. Please let us figure this out.”

I am tired of everyone trying to dictate what I need to do. I know full well, but I am not ready to take that step yet. When I’m ready, I will.

Thalia spoke up, “Don’t take too long, Adrian. Even mates have a limit.” She got up and left the table. Aiden followed.

Rory then said something too. “Maybe you should ask yourself why we're all defending Sinclair, Adrian. You don’t really know her. Maybe if you did, you would understand why we love her, and we are happy she is mated into this family.”

She then left, and Jonah followed, saying, “I’ll meet you at the training facility.”

After they left, I was left with mom and dad. I sighed again before sitting back in my chair. Dad spoke, “You know why Sinclair left that night, Adrian? It was to give you time to adjust. She was considerate and said she understands you are probably in shock and needed time to sort through your thoughts. You shunned her in front of everyone, and even though she was clearly hurting, she put you first. Like a mate should. Ask yourself if you have been putting her first or yourself.”

Mom and Dad both got up and left. I sat at the big table all alone. Aiden told me she left so I could adjust. I didn’t realize exactly what that meant until now. She did put me first. She didn’t try to force me into accepting her. She stood aside and let me be. Even when she came back, she didn’t seek me out. She gave me space.

‘I told you, I want our mates, Adrian. She isn’t Amber. Sinclair is someone who is going to stand by us,’ Thor said.

I closed him off. I need to be alone for a little bit. I got up and walked outside. I started walking the perimeter, and I smelled her scent again. It’s mixed with salty tears, though. She’s crying. I know I’m to blame. I continue walking, and I see her. She is sitting alone on a fallen tree. She has her arms wrapped around herself, and I see her shoulders shaking slightly. She’s not just crying, she’s sobbing.

Fuck.

“Sinclair?” I called out to her.

She stiffened, immediately wiped her face, and got up. She shifted and started running away. Really? It’s not like she can outrun me.

‘Mali is yelling at me!’ Thor growled in my head. ‘It’s all your fault!’

I groaned. ‘What did she say?’

‘She said you don’t deserve her human! You are fucking everything up!’

I shifted and went after Sinclair. She is strategic, though. She clearly knows these grounds better than I thought. Right as I’m gaining ground, she disappears. I can still smell her scent, though, so I follow it, but I don’t see her. Then I lose her scent. That has never happened to me before.

‘Aiden, do you have eyes on Sinclair?’

‘No. Why?’

‘I saw her crying, and when I approached her to find out what was wrong, she shifted and ran off.’

‘She outran you?’

‘No. She played Houdini on me. Disappeared. Her scent is gone, too.’
