Sinclair POV
I woke up, my body aching. I moved, and the soreness between my legs was there. It almost got me aroused again. Gods, it felt like Adrian was trying to embed himself inside me.
‘I want him to do that again. It was incredible, Clair,’ Mali said.
It really was incredible. At one point, I didn’t think I would be able to gain control of my body again. It was so intense, and my legs wouldn’t stop shaking. I smiled. Afterward, he held me and helped me sit up to eat.
I don’t know what I did, though, because he suddenly wanted me again.
For the first time in my life, I feel like someone loves me deeply. He hasn’t said it yet, and I am not going to push for it. I want that to happen organically. It feels like love, though. I don’t have any experience with this, so I’m not sure.
I slowly get up and walk to the shower. I clean myself and then slowly get dressed. I’m wearing comfortable clothes this time. Adrian needs to keep his hands to himself for a little while.
I think he told me that Aiden wanted to talk to him. So I went to Aiden’s office. Before I knocked, I heard Aiden and Adrian talking about me.
“…I don’t know about that, Aiden. We are mated and marked. I don’t know if I am in love, though. Anyway, what did you find out?” Adrian asked.
“She knows tech, martial arts, and has precision with a gun. I don’t know how long she has been training, though,” I heard Aiden tell Adrian.
“So, we have to be careful with her. Got it. She should be useful then.”
I stood back. He doesn’t know if he loves me? I’m useful? My chest feels like it’s being torn open. I turned and went back to our room. What am I saying? It’s his room. I’m just warming his bed.
Useful. That’s all I am to him. I was right all along. If Thor and Mali hadn’t forced it, Adrian would never have completed the bond with me. Everything he has said and done was so people wouldn’t judge him. Behind closed doors, I’m just useful.
Aiden didn’t say anything either. He just told Adrian my talents. That was it. I’m an asset. I thought we would be family. I thought I would have a family. Do Isaiah and Kaia look at me the same way? I don’t want to find out. I’m getting out of this pack.
I grabbed my laptop bag, threw on a change of clothes, and grabbed my phone. I pushed through my soreness and ran out of the pack house before anyone saw me and tried to stop me.
I got to my car and left the pack grounds before the guards could say anything. I made up an excuse, saying I was going to Ironclaw. I floored the gas and left. Mali is howling. She is heartbroken, too. Useful. He doesn’t know if he loves me, but knows I’m useful. That’s all I ever am.
When I was far enough away, I rejected the pack. It shot pain through me, but I didn’t stop there. I rejected Adrian, too.
“I, Sinclair Cross, an orphaned nobody, reject Adrian Willis as my mate,” I said as I felt the mate bond snap.
I screamed and pulled over long enough to let the pain subside. Then quiet. The pain was still there, but it still ebbed. I cried for a few minutes. I put the car in park and kept driving. I wasn’t going back to the human city, but I’m not staying here either. I have always been a loner, and this time will be no different.
I will find a quiet, secluded place for myself. I’m going dark. I don’t want to dare hope for love or family again. I can’t disturb Aric either. Poppy is going to have a pup soon, and he needs to focus on his new family. I won’t be a third wheel in his life.
‘Mali, are you okay?’ I asked.
‘Heartbroken. Thor said Adrian wanted us. He didn’t say it was for us to be a tool.’
My poor wolf. She is seeing firsthand what life has always been like for me. No love, just strategy.
