Chapter 18
Effie
After taking a nap with Veer, I got up and worked on cleaning the house. Henrie still wasn’t back from his.
interview, and I could only hope that was a good thing. After getting Veer’s diaper changed, I put him back in his pack–in–play to play and watch cartoons. Then, I worked on cleaning the house and washing clothes.
I had a couple of hours to waste until it was time for me to leave. So I figured that I’d use that time to get housework done. Veer always needs clothes washed. It seems like his clothes get changed fifty times a
day some days. So I started a load of his clothes and then went to clean up elsewhere.
I spent the next few hours cleaning the house and keeping an eye on Veer. When I was done cleaning, I
decided to take a break and play with Veer until it was time to get a shower and get ready. I took him out
of his pack–in–play and sat down on the floor with him. I had gotten him this cute little walking toy that had
a dimosaur on one side of it. On the other side of it, the baby stood up to it and used the handle to push it.
On the side with the dinosaur, it had different little toys that he could sit and play with. He loved it and
usually just sat in front of it, playing with it. But lately, he had been trying to walk with it.
I was cheering him on and taking a video of him as he took a few steps with it when Dove came through
the door. “Look at you go, doodle dumpling. I knew that you would start walking with that thing soon,”
Dove said as she kicked off her shoes and then came to join us on the floor. I stopped the video that I was
taking and then looked at Dove.
“Yeah, he’s taken a few steps with it and is doing so good. How did today go? You look exhausted,” I told
her. “Oh, I am, and it was a shit show. That little bitch that was the temp was jealous that I was getting so
much attention with the CEO and everyone else because I am their top author. So she tried to sabotage me, but fucking with my last book. Too bad for her, though, that my actual editor had already sent the last book to print. So, all she was messing with was the copy on the computer. She didn’t know that it had already been sent to be printed. The laptop that she was using was also one that recorded everything that she did on it. So it caught her fucking with my book. But because she’s been fucking the CEO, he let her off without getting in any trouble. I found a really good lawyer through a friend that went with me today because of it all. The CEO was trying to punish ME for what she did. I’ve never been so happy to have a contract be up for renewal before. Thanks to my lawyer, I have a lawsuit against them over all of it now. I won’t be signing on for another contract either. Thankfully, I was smart about the one that I did sign, and all of my books are exclusive to me only. So that they can’t keep making money off of me anymore. It says right in the contract that any books that I write are mine, and if I leave the company for any reason, they go with me. That they will lose all of their rights to continue to publish my books, and if they try to, then they will be subject to a lawsuit. I don’t want to sound conceited because I’m not, but the only reason that they are a big publishing company is because of me. They were just a little company before I signed the first contract with them. When the first book of my series was released, it blew up, and so did the company. Before that, they were barely hanging on. Now they have a lawsuit with me over this shit, and I’m on my own. Right now, I don’t know what I am going to do. I’ll continue to write until this is settled and I figure out what company I want to go to next. In the meantime, when I’m not writing, I’ll look into different

companies,” she told me.

“Why not just start your own company? Or start self–publishing and work your way up to that. If you want to start your own company, I’ll back you for it or be an investor. I know how good that you are at writing and I think that you would do really well on your own. It’s something to figure out in the meantime. And as far as that company goes, those assholes don’t know what they lost by taking that bitch’s side. But I’m sure that they will soon know. I know that a lot of authors only signed with them because of you. So, with you leaving, they will probably leave as well. If you opened up your own publishing place, they would most likely follow you once their contracts are up. You know that I own the building that the IT company is in. I have two floors, the second and third, that are empty and available if you want to go into business together. Think about it. In the meantime, I need to grab a shower and then bathe little nugget. We are going to Leandro’s parents‘ house for dinner tonight,” I told her and then filled her in on my day.
