Chapter 19-1
Effie
Chalm
Once Veer and I were ready to go, I double–checked his diaper bag to make sure that I had everything that I would need for the night in it. I made sure that there were plenty of diapers, wipes, and extra clothes. As well as snacks, drinks, and anything else that I would need for him.
When Leandro texted me that he was on his way and would be here soon, I started gathering stuff up to head downstairs. I attached the car seat and base together to make it easier to carry. Then I put my purse and diaper bag over my shoulder. Once I made sure that I had my keys and phone in my purse, I picked up Veer and set him on my hip. Then I grabbed the car seat.
I yelled out to Dove, “Hey, Leandro is on his way. Tell the boys that I’ll talk to them when I get back home. I shouldn’t be gone too long tonight. If you guys need me for anything, just send me a text. I’ll see you later. Love ya, chicky.” “I’ll let them know. Have fun, and don’t do anything that I wouldn’t do. I’ll see ya later, love you too,” she yelled back.
As I was going out the door, I yelled back, “That doesn’t leave me with much to work with. Because we know that you will do a whole hell of a lot.” “Bitch,” she yelled back with a laugh. I laughed with her and then headed out the door. At the bottom of the steps that led up to my apartment, I set the car seat down.
I unlocked the door to the bakery and walked in to check on the girls before leaving.
After checking on them and letting them know that Dove would be upstairs if they needed anything, I
reminded them about setting the alarm when they locked up. I grabbed a couple of cheesecakes from the
back fridge that I had as extras. Then I headed back to the back door because Leandro texted that he was
here. I locked the door to the bakery back, put the cheesecakes in the car seat, picked it up, and headed
out the door.
I sat the car seat down outside of the door so that I could make sure that it locked back. When I went to
pick it up, another hand was grabbing for it. “I’ve got it, baby. It looks like you have your hands full,” Leandro
said. “I’m used to it. Usually, I have Veer on one arm and a load of groceries on the other. As well as my purse and the diaper bag,” I told him.
“I hate that you have had to do everything alone. I also hate that I have missed so much with our son. The pregnancy and his first year of life. But I am here now, baby, and I will help you with anything that you need. Come on, let’s get you and our son in the car, and we can talk on the way. How was your day after I
dropped you off?” he asked me.
“It was good. I finished up the paperwork and then went upstairs and took a nap with Veer. After we got up, I cleaned the house and washed clothes. Then, I sat and played on the floor with my little nugget until it was time to shower and get ready. I got a video of Veer walking with his little walking toy today. It was the first time that he walked with it. Here, trade me, you take Veer, and I’ll put his seat in your car,” I said as
we got to it.
