His Secret Child, Her Revenge: Remarrying Up novel Chapter 10

Mrs. Gable opened the mouth of the sack. "Look, Sir. This is what Ma'am brought back today."

Silas peered into the bag.

There were live organic chickens and ducks inside.

Silas was stunned. "Where did these come from?"

Jasmine stood up, walked over to Silas, and pointedly let him see the scratch on her arm from her rolled-up sleeve.

"I heard that these farm-raised, organic birds are the most nutritious. I thought that with Felicity recovering, it would be good for her to have some.

"So, I drove out to the outskirts early this morning. I got these directly from a local farm."

Silas froze. "The outskirts? That's at least a six-hour round trip."

"It's fine," Jasmine said. "I didn't have anything else to do. I'd drive twelve hours if it meant helping her recover."

"You..."

Silas finally noticed the scratch on her arm.

It looked like she'd been scratched by something; luckily, it wasn't deep.

But Silas's brow furrowed slightly. "What happened to your arm?"

Jasmine tried to pull her sleeve down. "It's nothing."

Silas grabbed her arm. "Tell me exactly what happened. Why is there a wound?"

"Really, it's nothing," Jasmine said, sounding self-reproachful. "It's my own fault for being so clumsy. I couldn't even catch a chicken properly and got scratched."

Silas scolded her, but there was a clear note of concern in his voice.

"How could you be so careless? You've never done a day's labor in your life; what were you thinking, doing this yourself?"

Before she could respond, he added, "Mrs. Gable, tell the driver to get the car ready. Ma'am is injured; she needs a tetanus shot."

Jasmine tried to stop him. "It's not even a real wound, there's hardly any blood. I don't need a shot."

"No, you're going."

"Really, don't," Jasmine said softly. "The driver's had a long day; let him rest."

Silas thought for a few seconds. "I'll drive you myself."

Jasmine shook her head. "You've worked all day too. I don't want you to go through the trouble. Please, just listen to me."

Looking into her clear, soft eyes, Silas's heart inexplicably softened.

"Fine. I'll listen."

"Then go get some rest," Jasmine said. "It's late, and tomorrow will be another long day for you."

For the first time, Silas truly felt that his wife was a thoughtful, considerate person.

He really was exhausted today.

The office was a mess of problems that had left him drained.

Silas actually listened and went to his room.

Chloe was left staring in disbelief.

"Jasmine! What kind of spell did you cast on my brother? Why is he actually listening to you!"

Jasmine's smile was teasing. "Maybe because he's my husband."

"Ugh!" Chloe looked disgusted. "Don't think I don't know the truth. You two are a couple in name only. You haven't slept together in ages. Stop kidding yourself."

"How would you know about our private life?" Jasmine asked. "Did your Felicity tell you?"

Chloe stammered for a second. "Of course not! I just guessed!"

A guilty conscience needs no accuser.

Jasmine didn't bother to call her out.

"You're just a spoiled kid; what do you know about the 'pleasures' of a marriage? It might look cold on the surface, but you'd be surprised how much we enjoy ourselves."

Chloe's face turned bright red with rage.

"Spoiled kid? Jasmine! How can you be so vulgar!"

"Vulgar?" Jasmine smiled faintly. "Good. Vulgar words are for people who love to cause vulgar trouble."

Chloe was so angry she could barely breathe.

"Jasmine! You have no shame!"

"Am I the one with no shame, or is it you?"

Jasmine's smile vanished, replaced by a cold, sharp gaze.

"As the daughter of the Vance family, you act like a common thug with zero class. It's embarrassing.

"I am your sister-in-law, yet you call me by my name. In our family, that makes me a mother figure to you. This is called a total lack of respect for your elders.

"Tell me, who exactly has no shame?"
