How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 116

After a moment of silence, Winifred looked at Yvan. "If I insist on holding Cornelia accountable, will you be upset with me?"

She had a feeling the Brown and Johnson families had some sort of connection. Hadn't Yvan mentioned that his parents once tried to set him up with Cornelia?

"No," Yvan said firmly. "I only care about how you feel."

Winifred clenched her hand. "In that case, let the law take its course."

Cornelia had targeted her time and again, each time more viciously than the last. And now that she was in trouble, why was Zebulon calling Yvan instead of her, the actual victim?

It was clear that in their eyes, she didn't matter.

If that was the case, she saw no reason to show them any mercy.

"Good," Yvan said. "I support your decision."

If she couldn't continue working at Zion Medical Center, he would help her find another job.

Winifred stood up. "Thank you for the pastas. I'll wash the dishes."

She reached for his bowl, but Yvan caught her hand.

"I'll get them," he said, his eyes fixed on hers.

Winifred's face flushed. "Then let go of my hand."

Yvan released her, and she quickly retreated to her bedroom, closing the door behind her.

She hated her own reaction.

After washing the dishes, Yvan knocked on her door.

Winifred opened it. "Yes?"

"I have something to take care of at the office, so I have to head out," Yvan said. "Don't worry about dinner; I'll bring something back for you."

Winifred replied, "You don't have to trouble yourself. I can handle my own dinner. Aren't you staying at your parents' place? It's too much of a hassle to drive back and forth."

Yvan cleared his throat. "...Can I stay here? Some relatives showed up unexpectedly at my parents' house, so they're using my room."

Yvan coughed lightly. "Okay, I'm leaving now."

"Alright."

"Call me if you need anything."

"I know."

Yvan grabbed his jacket and started to leave, but turned back at the door. "If Zebulon calls you, you don't have to answer. I'll handle everything."

Winifred's grip on the doorframe tightened unconsciously. She nodded. "Okay."

Yvan finally turned and left.

She watched the door close, a dazed expression on her face.

Yvan's words, "I'll handle everything," sent a pang of pain through her heart.

If only he had been there for her all those years ago, if only he could have said that to her then, how wonderful that would have been.
